Walk + Greek Salad + Valentine’s Day Nails
I went for a walk yesterday morning, and it was absolutely beautiful out. Not a cloud in the sky, which somehow made the blue feel even bluer. Calgary is really spoiling us right now, and I’m not mad about it. I’m so grateful for the warmer temperatures that make walks doable in the middle of winter. It feels like such a gift when Mother Nature decides to be kind this time of year.

While it was definitely a bit cooler in the shade, it felt so good to stretch my legs and get outside. The sun on my face made it all worth it, and I soaked it up as much as I could. I listened to an episode of the Vanished podcast while I walked, which made the time pass quickly. By the time I got home, I had covered 3.74 kilometres in 44 minutes, and I felt that good kind of tired you get from fresh air and movement.

I also figured it was time to lean into the Valentine’s Day spirit, so I went with a pretty pale pink on my nails this week. Pink isn’t usually my go to, but I’m really liking it. And it feels very February. I usually stick to two coats of polish, but this one needed three to get that even, opaque look. The colour is Minimalistic by Essie, and I have a feeling it might make another appearance come spring.

Last night I volunteered at Girl Guides, and without fail, I always come home absolutely starving. Knowing that would be the case, I prepped a Greek salad earlier in the day, and honestly, it was such a good decision. Having all the chopping done ahead of time meant I could eat sooner, which is always the goal when hunger hits.

I kept it classic with green bell pepper, cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, olives, and feta cheese. Just before sitting down to eat, I added some Greek dressing, and it came together perfectly. Simple, fresh, and exactly what I needed after a busy evening.

Speaking of volunteering, I picked up a couple of goodies at Guides. Every year on February 22, everyone involved in Guiding and Scouting around the world celebrates World Thinking Day. This year is especially meaningful because it marks the 100th anniversary of the very first Thinking Day. I’m always excited about getting new crests, and now I have two more to sew onto my camp blanket. It feels really special to sew another memory onto it.
When I look back on days like this, it’s really the simple things that stand out. A sunny winter walk. A fresh coat of nail polish. A bowl of salad waiting in the fridge. A new crest to sew on. None of it is extravagant, but together it makes for a full, happy day.
