Best Leg Workout Equipment
If you’re looking to build stronger, having the right equipment can make a huge difference. Whether you’re working out at home or hitting the gym, using the right tools helps you train safely and effectively. In today’s post, I’m sharing my favorite pieces of leg workout equipment that can help you strengthen and sculpt your lower body.

Why does having the right leg workout equipment matter?
Using the right equipment for each exercise can make all the difference. Choosing dumbbells or barbells that are too heavy means your form won’t be correct, which can lead to injuries. On the other hand, skipping weights altogether and only doing bodyweight exercises can make it harder to see progress over time.
Having the proper equipment ensures you get enough variety in your workouts, stay motivated, and can track your progress. Dumbbells, for example, allow you to do a wide range of exercises with just one piece (or pair) of equipment. Plus, being able to increase the weight as you get stronger can be a great motivator to stay consistent with your workouts.
When putting together your collection of leg workout equipment, it’s important to consider the space you have to work out and store your gear, your fitness goals, and your budget.
At-Home Leg Workout Equipment
Here are my top pieces of leg workout equipment and why I think they’re so valuable.
Resistance Bands
There are so many ways to use resistance bands. They’re great for exercises like squats, clamshells, and lateral walks. They’re also one of the most affordable types of equipment out there. You can get a variety of resistances for a great price, which makes them incredibly versatile.
Another bonus? They’re small and easy to store, so if you don’t have much room for a home gym, resistance bands are a fantastic choice.
Dumbbells
These are probably my favorite piece of equipment for training my lower body. Dumbbells are incredibly versatile and can be used for so many different exercises. They also come in a wide range of weights, so as you get stronger, you can gradually move up.
With just a few different pairs of dumbbells, you can cover tons of exercises. For example, you might use heavier weights for squats and lighter ones for calf raises. The muscles used in each exercise vary in size and strength, so adjusting the weight helps you target each one effectively.
You can use dumbbells for everything from squats and calf raises (like mentioned above) to lunges, step-ups, deadlifts, and hip thrusts. That’s not even an exhaustive list, but it gives you an idea of how versatile they are.
Adjustable Bench
Having a bench really expands the number of lower body exercises you can do. Moving from the floor to a higher surface changes the angle of movement, which challenges your leg muscles in different ways.
You can use a bench for Bulgarian split squats, step-ups, hip thrusts, and bench hops. An adjustable bench also lets you mix things up. For example, instead of doing regular lunges, you can switch to Bulgarian split squats to target slightly different muscles and keep your workouts interesting.
Kettlebell
What makes kettlebells different from dumbbells is that you typically only need one instead of a pair. This cuts down on storage space if you’re building a home gym and makes them a bit more budget friendly.
You can use kettlebells for a wide variety of movements – some that overlap with dumbbell exercises and others that are more kettlebell specific. Think goblet squats, kettlebell swings, Romanian deadlifts, lunges, and one arm cleans.
Final thoughts
Now that you have some new ideas for leg workout equipment and the exercises you can do with them, I encourage you to try something new during your next workout—whether you’re at home or at the gym.
