Weekly Recap: Catching Up, Selling Cookies + A Coffee Shop

Last week I was dog sitting my boyfriend’s English Bulldog, Winston. I loved having him here – he’s such a character – but when he went home, the house felt so quiet. As much as I missed him, it was also kind of nice to get back into my usual routine.

First thing Sunday morning, I picked up my grocery order. On the meal plan for the week: teriyaki and pineapple chicken burgers, pasta and salad, barbecued hot dogs with pasta salad, tuna noodle casserole, and chicken kababs. I thought I’d share dinners because I’m always looking for new ideas myself.

Once I unpacked the groceries, I tackled some cleaning and laundry. Even though I spend time with Winston at my boyfriend’s place, I always forget just how much fur he leaves behind when he’s here. Vacuuming and washing blankets felt never-ending – dog parents, I’m sure you know what it’s like!

Lunch was a big salad with greens, cucumber, tomato, marble cheese, roasted pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, and creamy poppy seed dressing. Exactly what I was craving.

That evening I made dinner and then treated myself to some self-care: a face mask and a new book. I finally cracked open London by Edward Rutherfurd. If you’re not familiar with his books, they’re huge, sweeping stories about a specific place, following families through centuries. They’re definitely a commitment at around 1,000 pages, but so worth it if you love getting lost in a setting.

I’ve been loving these Garnier Moisture Bomb sheet masks. They’re quick and easy to put on and after 15 minutes they leave my skin feeling amazing! I highly recommend them if you’re looking for a sheet mask.

Most of Monday was spent blogging and catching up on work I’d fallen behind on while dog sitting. It felt good to be productive again.

Dinner was a cozy tuna noodle casserole – nothing fancy, but quick, filling, and minimal dishes since it all came together in one pot. Perfect for a fall evening.

Breakfast was vanilla yogurt with almond granola (my current go-to) on Tuesday morning.

After dropping some books off at the library, I had a leftover chicken burger chopped into a salad with poppy seed dressing and melba toast on the side.

My shoulder, which has been sore since two car accidents last year, was extra achy Tuesday morning. A hot water bottle ended up being the perfect relief – I even used it again before bed.

In the afternoon, I snacked on some chocolate covered peanuts my boyfriend brought me from Mordens’ Chocolates in Winnipeg. Apparently, it’s a local specialty, and wow – they were so good!

That evening was my weekly Girl Guides meeting. My group of 9 to 11 year old Guides sold cookies around the neighborhood. They needed a bit of help with math, but overall they did so well. One or two were nervous about speaking to the people who answered the door, but they did a great job.

If you’re in Calgary and want to buy some Girl Guide cookies, let me know – I can deliver! Proceeds go to programming, badges, and camping.

Bright and early, I gave my dad a ride to an appointment. I waited in the car with my book – introvert life!

Afterwards, he wanted a treat, so we stopped at Fenyk Coffee and Social. I discovered it this summer and love both of their locations. They’ve recently added a beautiful enclosed patio at their Northland location. I had a blueberry tea and he ordered a chai latte – both hits.

I noticed lots of people working on laptops there, and I’m tempted to bring mine next time I need a change of scenery for blogging.

Dinner plans shifted when the hot weather made me rethink making pasta. Instead, I grabbed some chicken and veggie kababs from the grocery store to barbecue. They turned out delicious and kept the kitchen cool – win-win.

That’s a little peek into my week! I always enjoy putting these recaps together because it feels like chatting with a friend about everyday life.
