At Home Workout

Sometimes the hardest part about working out is actually getting to the gym. That’s why I love having an at home workout option ready to go when life gets busy. With just a few simple pieces of equipment, you can get in a full-body workout without leaving your living room. Today I’m sharing a great go-to workouts that’s both effective and easy to set up.

A black yoga mat, a pir of dumbbells, an exercise ball, water bottle, and laptop are all on a wooden floor. The text over lay reads "at home workout".

Since this is an at home workout, I designed it to be as simple as possible while still giving you a good challenge. You’ll only need four key pieces of equipment:

  • A sturdy step – You’ll need something reliable to step up on, like a bench, stool, or plyo box. Make sure it’s solid and stable since you’ll be putting your full weight on it.
  • Dumbbells – Have two sets on hand: one lighter pair for upper body exercises like overhead presses and lateral presses, and a heavier pair for lower body moves such as squats and lunges.
  • Yoga mat – This is a lifesaver for exercises on your hands and knees, like push-ups. My knees definitely appreciate the extra cushioning, and my Manduka Pro mat has held up beautifully over the years—even through yoga teacher training!

This workout is structured around 30 seconds of work followed by 30 seconds of rest and transition. After completing all six exercises, start back at the top. Go through the circuit four times for a total of about 24 minutes.

I alternated between upper and lower body exercises so that you’re working different muscle groups throughout.

  • Overhead press
  • Dumbbell squats
  • Push ups
  • Lunges
  • Lateral press
  • Step ups

Wondering what size dumbbells to use? The right weight will challenge you while still allowing you to maintain good form through every rep—even the very last one. If your form starts to break down, it usually means the dumbbells are too heavy, which increases your risk of injury. Always aim for a weight that feels tough but doable.

That’s it – just six moves and less than half an hour for a full-body at home workout! I love how quick and effective this one is, especially on days when I just don’t have time to head to the gym. Remember to listen to your body, modify as needed. Roll out your mat, grab those dumbbells, and get moving!
