Weekly Recap: Volunteering, Walks, and Flowers
In today’s post I’m sharing a recap of the last week.

Let’s rewind back to last Saturday.

I spent Saturday with my boyfriend. We made bacon cheeseburgers with pasta salad as a side dish for dinner. It was delicious. For dessert we had raspberry turnovers, which were also really good.
I tried a couple of new to me drinks. This zero sugar 7 Up in the grapefruit flavor was surprisingly good. I figured it would taste like Fresca, but it was more grapefruit-y instead of citrus-y like Fresca. It’s definitely something that I would drink again. I thought it was just as good as Fresca. My boyfriend and I got 2 flavors of Candy Can. I had never seen them before, but we thought we’d give them a try. We both liked the sour apple flavor, but thought that the bubble gum was just kind of meh.

While Saturday was HOT, Sunday had cooled off and was much nicer outside. I spent a good chunk of the day outside on the deck. I read Broken Bayou on my Kindle. I’m liking it so far, though it took me awhile to get into it. The beginning didn’t grab me immediately. I’ll let you know what I think once I finish reading it.
I ate lunch on the deck. I made a mixing bowl salad of greens, shredded chicken, feta cheese, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, balsamic dressing, and some rice crackers on the side. It was the perfect summer meal, and eating it outside just made it better

A variation on my every day makeup. I’ll include some lipstick or a lip gloss as well. I’m trying that Elf setting powder this summer for the first time. I’ve been wanting to try a setting spray, and this one was a good price, since I wasn’t sure if I’d like it or not. I went with the soft luminance color. Links to the other products in the photo: Il Makiage mascara, Covergirl pressed powder in fair, Maybelline fit me blush in rose, Covergirl brow powder, and Pinky B Beauty primer.

For dinner on Sunday I made some chicken with broccoli, rice, and peanut satay sauce. It was a super easy meal to cook and it had a lot of flavor. Those are my favorite kinds of dinners to make. Easy and flavorful.

Monday morning I was up bright and early to get in a walk. I covered just under 3 km in about 40 minutes. While it was a sunny morning, it was chilly! I even had to zip up my jacket to stay warm. This was my first time doing this route, so I wasn’t entirely sure how long it would take.
Later on in the day I got some errands done, including picking up 6 months’ worth of contacts. I’ll be able to see for the next 6 months, yay!

For lunch on Tuesday I couldn’t decide on just one thing, so I decided to make a snacky lunch. I put together a plate of yogurt, feta cheese with sliced olives, beef jerky, crackers, and some pumpkin seeds mixed with dried cranberries. It hit the spot and was apparently just what I needed.
Tuesday night I had my last Girl Guides meeting of the year. I’ve been volunteering with these 8 teens since September and I’m so grateful that I’ve been able to get to know them. We’ve done everything from volunteering with seniors to camping to shopping for groceries for the food bank. We gave out the badges they’d earned over the last few months as well as some Girl Guide awards. They’ve accomplished a lot at our Tuesday night meetings.

I ended up getting a year end gift from one of my very thoughtful co-guiders and a thank you card from one of the teens. Obviously I don’t volunteer for the material things I get, but it feels so good to be recognized. How cute is that mushroom travel cup?!?!
Wednesday morning I was up bright and early for a workout. I did a Fitness Mashall playlist on YouTube. I have to be careful about workouts due to my ED history. But these dance workouts feel like more fun than workout and so far they’ve been good for me. My favorite song to dance to was Sour Candy. Check out the playlist here.

Wednesday night I barbecued a veggie burger. I topped it off with a slice of marble cheese, slice of pickle, ketchup, and mustard. I paired it with a handful of salt and vinegar chips and some broccoli. It was a quick and easy summer time meal.

After dinner I spent some time reading outside on the deck. I just started reading All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Somehow I haven’t read it yet or watched the movie on Netflix. I’m only 75 pages in so far but I’m really liking it.

For lunch on Thursday I made myself some chicken salad. I had some crackers, apple sauce, and yogurt on the side. I had been craving Triscuit crackers, so I was glad to have them with my lunch. Thursday afternoon I had to head out to buy a few things. I ended up coming home with these pretty flowers. Fresh cut flowers are always a treat for me, so I’m thoroughly enjoying these ones.

I made myself another batch of hard boiled eggs in my Instant Pot. They’re so quick and easy to make in there. Once they cool off enough to handle I peel them and then store them in the fridge. They’re perfect on salads or even snacks when I’m wanting some extra protein.

Sunday morning I was wide awake by 6:30 am. I have no idea why. I tried falling back asleep but it just wasn’t going to happen. After awhile I got out of bed and decided to go for a walk. The temperature was perfect, because it got hot later on in the day, but early in the morning it was still nice and cool out. I covered about 3 km in 40 minutes. Afterwards I sat on the deck and drank some electrolytes. After years of using Nuun, I decided to try out Cira Nutrition’s Very Grapeful electrolyte mix. I’ve been using it for a week or two now and I’m really enjoying it.

A few hours later I headed out to the grocery store to pick up my grocery order. Meals this week include salads for lunches, and tacos, smokies, and marinated chicken for dinners. We’re going to eat well for another week!
Sunday afternoon I had plans to head over to my boyfriend’s place. We were going to make dinner together. I was really looking forward to the butter chicken we had planned. Unfortunately traffic was really bad due to an accident, so after 30 minutes of going about 1 km I decided to head home. As much as I missed date night, traffic was shut down for several hours, so I wouldn’t have been able to get through even if I had waited it out.
Now that you’ve read about my week, what was the highlight of your week? Tell me about it in the comments below.
