It’s been awhile since I last wrote one of these posts, so I thought I’d share one today.
Digital Marketing Class
Back in May I signed up for a continuing education class all about digital marketing. It was an online course, so I was able to work on it on my own schedule, which was perfect. I actually submitted my final assignment earlier this week. While I learned a ton, it was definitely a lot of work, so I’m glad it’s done. The biggest thing I took away from the class was that having a plan with clearly defined goals helps focus where I should be spending my time. It’s so easy to share content without really knowing why I’m doing it. If I have a specific goal in mind then it’s easier to know what I need to do.
Girl Guide Camping
Over the last two months I’ve done a ton of camping with Girl Guides. I’ve been to three different camps in Alberta owned by Girl Guides. The first weekend camp was at a camp that was brand new to me, so it was fun to check it out. It’s the most rustic camp I’ve been to so far – there was no water available, so we had to bring water (drinking, dishes, etc.) with us to camp. The campers had so much fun sleeping in a yurt and I enjoyed having my tent all to myself.
My second camp was with the Guides that I volunteer with on a weekly basis. We spent the weekend tenting with the second year Embers who will be able to join our unit next year as first year Guides. It was great to get to know some of the campers that I may be working with next year. It was the first time some of the girls had ever slept in tents, so there was a lot of excitement about that.
The last weekend camp I volunteered with the core team (I didn’t have any Guides there that I was responsible for), so I got to do more of the programming and prep rather than interacting with campers. It was a lot of fun and I ended up liking it more than I thought I would. It’s definitely a position that I would like to take on more in the future.
I bought my tent this spring when it was on sale. I’m so happy with it. It’s a front country tent so it’s way too heavy to take backpacking, but getting extra room is so worth it to me. Having enough space to sleep on a cot (!) and be able to stand up to change clothes are such little things but make all the difference when I’m camping. It’s been through a couple rainstorms and even hail, and it’s been dry each time.
Now that you know what I’ve been up to lately, let me know what you have going on in the comments below.
Have you taken any cont ed courses? Do you like camping?
