Today I’m blogging about a few of my favorite things from the past week.
Anyone else ready for the weekend too? I’m looking forward to a few lower key days. We’re expecting a bunch of snow and really cold temperatures over the weekend here in Calgary. I have a feeling that I’ll be hunkering down at home and trying to stay as warm as possible. I’m grateful that I don’t have anywhere that I need to be this weekend so that I don’t have to venture out.
Cherry chocolate birthday cake
Last weekend was my brother’s birthday. Every year he asks me to make a different kind of cake for him. This year it was a cherry chocolate cake! He wanted layers of chocolate cake, layers of cherries (I went with cherry pie filling), maraschino cherries, and vanilla frosting. It turned out pretty good considering that I was was winging it with the cherry pie filling between the layers of cake.
Of course I knew that the chocolate and cherries would go well together – they’re such a good combination of flavors. My brother was pretty happy with it before even tasting it. I’m so glad that I was able to make him a cake that he was so happy with. It’s tough having a birthday during the pandemic and not being able to celebrate it like he would want to with his friends. My fingers are crossed that this time next year he’ll be able to celebrate in person with his friends.
Peach Side Babe nail poslish
My latest nail polish purchase is Peach Side Babe (affiliate link) by Essie. It’s a really pretty peachy color. I actually like it more on my nails than I do in the bottle which was a nice surprise. I have a feeling it’s going to be a go to color for me this summer.
It’s one of those colors that needs 3 coats to get full coverage, but I don’t mind doing an extra coat. I’d rather do that than have it look streaky. As usual I used my favorite base coat (affiliate link) and top coat (affiliate link) along with it to keep my manicure looking as good as possible for as long as possible.
