Today I’m sharing an update on what’s been going on over the past month.
It’s hard to believe that the pandemic has been going on for almost a year now. It feels pretty surreal to even type that out. So many things that had to change are slowly starting to feel “normal” – everything from wearing as mask when I’m in public (and keeping stashes of them in my bag and car) to always having hand sanitizer on me when I’m out. Curbside pickup wasn’t a thing before, but that’s one of the silver linings for the pandemic for me. I would much rather do curbside pickup than go into the store. I’m hoping that it’s one of the things that sticks around once the pandemic is over. I’m missing lots of things though. I haven’t eaten in a restaurant since February. I have a feeling it’ll be awhile before I’m comfortable doing that though. In the meantime I’ll stick to delivery.
Certain restrictions were lifted here in Alberta last week, so I got to see my boyfriend in person for the first time in over a month. It felt so good to be able to spend time with him for a bit, even though it had to be outside, masked, and socially distanced. As much as we talk through technology, there’s something that’s different about being with someone and being able to look them directly in the eye. Who would have thoughts that almost a year in we’d still be doing outdoor get together instead of indoor ones?
I’ve been knitting up a storm while watching Netflix. My University of Lethbridge alumni association is holding a donation drive for Alpha House, a great organization that works with people experiencing homelessness, addition, and mental illness in Calgary. I dropped off my first box of knitted donations a few months ago. When I got the email that the alumni association was working with Alpha House I knew that I had to help. I have two small boxes full of toques, neck warmers, and mittens ready to be picked up this weekend. I’m hoping to be able to add another neck warmer or pair of mittens before Saturday.
