In today’s post I’m sharing a few of my favorite things from the past week.

Happy Friday! This week flew by. It always seems to feel like December flies by – especially the closer we get to Christmas. It’s hard to believe that it’s only a week away now. I’m very grateful that I have all of my Christmas baking done (I made Chex mix, gingerbread cookies, rum balls, and shortbread this year). I’m done shopping, although I’m admittedly still waiting for a few more packages to arrive. They should all arrive before Christmas though, so my fingers are crossed that they’ll arrive on schedule. How are your Christmas preparations going so far? Hopefully the end is in sight for you too.

As usual for Fridays here on Get Fit Fiona, I’ll be sharing a few of my favorite things. I love sharing them because it’s always fun to read about other people are enjoying on their similar posts.

Hot chocolate bombs

Hot chocolate bombs have been the trendy thing to share on social media the last few weeks. I showed a video to my dad and he thought it was the coolest thing ever. I looked to see where I could buy some in Calgary and was sad to see that the first few places I found were already sold out. Clearly they’re a hot commodity here! Thankfully I was able to find them in the YYC Food Trucks store. Shipping was super fast (they arrived at my door in 12 hours), so I was really impressed. While I haven’t had one yet they’re really pretty. I got a package of 4 of them and each one is decorated differently. They really are pretty! I think these are something that we’ll be saving for closer to Christmas.

Library books

Like I’ve mentioned before, new restrictions were put into place here in Calgary because case numbers of Covid were continuing to climb. That hasn’t changed a whole lot for me (I was doing the vast majority of my shopping online and I was only seeing my boyfriend). New closures included gyms and libraries. The Calgary library is still offering curbside pick up for holds though. Needless to say, I took advantage of that and put a bunch of books on hold that I’ve been wanting to read.

I’m really looking forward to Grit (affiliate link), Doctor Sleep (affiliate link), and The Things We Keep (affiliate link). I’ve seen Grit recommended a few places online. I watched the Doctor Sleep movie earlier in the year and really liked it. If you enjoyed The Shining I think you’ll like Doctor Sleep. It’s the sequel to The Shining. I’ve really enjoyed other Sally Hepworth books I’ve read so far, so I’m excited about The Things We Keep (as well as The Secrets of Midwives).

It’s been a few years since I last borrowed a physical book from the library. The last little while I’ve been accessing ebooks through Libby. To be completely honest it’s kind of nice to be back to reading something that I can hold in my hands. I was surprised when I picked up my last batch of holds on Tuesday how busy the parking lot of the library was. Apparently more people than I was expecting were taking advantage of being able to pick up holds curbside.

Is your Christmas shopping done yet? Do you prefer to read ebooks or physical books?
