I’ve been doing my nails every week for a few months now, and I thought I’d share some of my favorite at home manicure products.
Over the summer I started doing my nails regularly. While I used to do them all the time when I was in high school, I hadn’t done them in years and years. It only takes an hour or two on Sundays, but it gives me a week’s worth of happiness when I look down and see my nails everyday. I usually share my nails every week on Instagram. Cuticle oil
I’ve always had dry skin, so cuticle oil has been essential in keeping my fingers and nails looking good. I find that applying it twice per day is the sweet spot for me. It keeps my skin and nails looking good but I don’t have greasy hands all day. The Sally Hansen cuticle oil (affiliate link) I’ve been using absorbs pretty quickly and I’ve really liked it. It makes a huge difference for me.
Base coat
I found that using a base coat before I put nail polish on makes a big difference in how long my nail color stays chip free. I know it adds another step to the process, but it’s so worth it to make my manicure long lasting. My favorite base coat is Essie’s Smooth-e base coat (affiliate link).
Essie nail polish
My go to nail polish since I started doing my nail again has been Essie (affiliate link). It’s definitely a bit more expensive than your typical drugstore brand nail polish, but I think it’s worth it. It covers well and so far I’ve only needed 2 coats to get good coverage. That definitely hasn’t been the case with other brands of nail polish that I’ve tried. I would much rather pay a bit more for good quality nail polish than struggle with patchy coverage that doesn’t look very good.
If you’re like me and have a tough time sitting still waiting for nail polish to dry, I highly recommend trying out Expressie (affiliate link). It’s Essie’s fast drying formula. While they definitely don’t have the same selection of colors as they do with their regular nail polish, I love how quickly it dries.
Top coat
The final step when I do my nails is applying a top coat. It helps to protect my nails throughout the week and make sure that they continue to look good. I also like the shine that it puts on my nails. I feel like if I put in the effort to do my nails then I should try to make sure that it lasts as long as possible.
