Today I’m sharing a few of my favorite things from the past week.
It’s Friday! This week feels like it’s gone by really fast and really slow at the same time. Does that ever happen to anyone else? Hopefully I’m not the only one. As usual for Fridays here on Get Fit Fiona, I’m sharing a couple things that I’ve been enjoying this week. The last few weeks have been extra stressful with some stuff that I have going on. That means that I’ve been having to up my stress relief and self care games. A few things that made it into this post today are definite stress busters for me.
Pride and Prejudice
I received the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice from a friend a few years ago for Christmas. I’ve watched the mini series a few times now and decided to have it another go this week. My internet connection here at the house has been a bit unreliable the last few weeks – it’ll cut out a few times each day. Because I need the internet to watch Netflix or Prime, that meant I had to find a “low tech” way to watch something – hence the DVD.
I’m honestly kind of glad that I was “forced” brought it out to watch again because I forgot how much I liked it. I feel like this version of Pride and Prejudice does the book justice. No matter now many times I see Colin Firth in other movies, I always think of him as Mr Darcy. He was so perfect for that role.
Spending time with Winston
I got to see Winston last weekend! He’s my boyfriend’s dog and I was able to go on a walk with the two of them. Since my boyfriend and I don’t live together we’ve been doing the social distancing and masked thing whenever we see each other, which has been once every few weeks. It’s been tough not being able to spend time together like usual, but during a pandemic you have to be willing to make changes.
It was so nice to be able to spend time with both of them in person. I’m a huge dog person, so being able to go for a walk with the two of them is a lot of fun. Who knew that walks would be something that I would look forward to? Partway through the walk we found a park with some grass and benches so we took a bit of a break, which is where I took this photo. Winston was happy to have me along for the walk and I was happy to be able to get in some Winston time.
Winter in Paradise
I borrowed Winter in Paradise (affiliate link) from the library and I’m just about done reading it. I’ll probably finish it either tonight before bed or tomorrow. I’ve read a few books so far by Elin Hilderbrand and I’ve really enjoyed all of them. They’re easy and quick to read. For the most part they’re set in Nantucket, but this one takes place in the British Virgin Islands. As usual I really like the characters she’s created and I’ve gotten pulled into their story lines.
Here’s the synopsis from Good Reads:
Irene Steele’s idyllic life – house, husband, family – is shattered when she is woken up by a late-night phone call. Her beloved husband has been found dead, but before Irene can process this tragic news, she must confront the perplexing details of her husband’s death. He was found on St. John island, a tropical paradise far removed from their suburban life. Leaving the cold winter behind, Irene flies down to the beautiful Caribbean beaches of St. John only to make another shocking discovery: her husband had a secret second family. As Irene investigates the mysterious circumstances of her husband’s death, she is plunged into a web of intrigue and deceit belied by the pristine white sand beaches of St. John’s. This exciting first book in the Paradise series will transport readers to a new beach locale-another world that Elin knows as well as her beloved Nantucket – and have them longing for winter.
