It’s been quite awhile since I last wrote a weekend highlights post. I’m thinking months! The passage of time feels very strange right now. Something from years ago won’t feel like all that long, but 3 weeks ago feels like it was forever. I know I’ve said this a million times, but everything just feels so weird and different right now.

Village Ice Cream

Friday afternoon I headed over to Village Ice Cream to pick up a few pints of ice cream that I ordered online earlier in the week. I knew that their pick up process was contactless, but I was so impressed with their system when I got there. They very clearly care so much about keeping both their employees and customers as safe as possible. If you’re craving an ice cold treat as the weather warms up, I highly recommend Village.

I ordered three pints of ice cream and a couple of their waffle cones. I almost always go for a waffle cone at Village because they’re so delicious. In terms of ice cream I went with all seasonal flavors – strawberry cheesecake, lemon poppy seed cake, and cookies and cream. I’ve tried each of the three flavors and they’re all really good.

A walk

I got outside for a walk on Friday despite how wet and rainy it was. Friday was the third or fourth day in a row of rainy weather, so I was itching to get outside. It actually wasn’t as cold as I thought it was going to be so I ended up adding a bit more onto my walk than I thought I was going to do.

The ground was pretty water logged from all the rain, which meant that there were some pretty big puddles to navigate around. I’m so grateful that I have access to green space so close to my house. Add to the fact that it was so uncrowded and I’m even more grateful. I know that not everyone has that right now.

Since I’m not at the gym or driving nearly as much as I was before the pandemic, I’m not listening to as many podcasts. While I was on my walk I caught up on two of them which was fun. I didn’t realize how much I had missed them! I’m determined to listen to more of them this week. I have a huge backlog that I want to get through.

The Gown

On Saturday I started reading The Gown (affiliate link) by Jennifer Robison. Julie recommended it on her blog. I’m glad that she did because I’m having a hard time putting it down. I love historical fiction so I’m really enjoying it.

I have a feeling it won’t take me long to finish this one. I stayed up way too late on Saturday reading. I’m a novice sewer, so even though I don’t have the skills to make a wedding dress myself, I can appreciate how much work went into Princess Elizabeth’s dress.

Treadmill workout

Sunday morning I was feeling ambitious enough to finally get in a treadmill workout. I think it had been a month or so since I’d last gotten on the treadmill. Workouts have been tough to get in lately because of a lack of motivation.

Thankfully I talked myself into getting my workout clothes on, and then it wasn’t too hard to get my workout started. I spent 30 minutes doing an incline walk. It wasn’t a tough workout, but I got moving and that’s what matters.

Homemade pizza

For lunch I made some homemade pizza for lunch. It tasted so good! I had to improvise a bit for the pizza sauce, but it still turned out pretty good. I topped it with pepperoni, black olives, and cheese. The crust was thin so it was perfectly crunchy and crispy.

I can’t even remember the last time I made pizza at home. I think that’s part of what made it taste so good. Pizza is so easy to make, I really do need to make it more often.

Working outside

I spent Sunday afternoon working outside in the backyard. I grabbed my laptop, a cushion for the lawn chair, and soaked in the nice weather. It felt so good to be outside. With all of the rain we got last week I wasn’t able to get out much. I got a bunch of work done so I was glad that I was so productive.
