Today I’m sharing my workouts and meals from the last week.
I decided to take a rest day to start off my week. I had worked out for 4 days in a row before that and my body just needed a bit of a break.
I woke up to snow on Monday. Boo. Needless to say that it was really tempting to just stay home instead of venturing out into the cold and snow to get to the gym.
I got together all my motivation though and made it to the gym for a Group Power class that I had signed up for. It was another great class doing the October 2019 release. I feel like I’m finally getting into the swing of things now that I’ve done it a few times. It’s always surprising how a new release will throw me for a loop the first few times that I do it.
I took a rest day from the gym though I still felt like I wanted to move a bit, so I ended up going to the mall to walk and get my steps in. It did the trick and I didn’t even spend any money which was a bonus!
I was back at the gym on Wednesday morning for a cardio workout on the elliptical. It was still dark when I left the gym but at least there wasn’t any new snow on the ground. Sometimes you have to take what you can get.
I spent 30 minutes doing steady state cardio before cooling down on the track for 5 minutes. It was definitely a shorter workout but it got the job done.
Thursday morning I was back at the gym, but for another Group Power class this time. It was a super busy class which was great to see. There were also a few people dressed up since it was Halloween. One of the personal trainers was a dancing Bruno Mars, there was a Snow White, a cat, and an astronaut. It was a very festive place this morning!
The workout was a great one as usual. I switched it up a bit by using a plate in each hand for the squat track instead of using the barbell on my shoulders/back. I used a slightly lighter weight but I ended up feeling it a lot more in my quads for some reason. I’ll have to try plates in my hands again instead of the barbell and see if the same thing happens. I definitely wasn’t expecting it to change where I felt the squats.
I attended another Group Power class on Friday for my last gym workout of the week.
I’m attending yoga teacher training this morning, and I think that we’ll be doing a yin practice. I’m super excited to learn more about it because I can definitely see myself teaching yin classes myself.
This us a recycled photo, but most of my breakfasts this week were protein smoothies. My go to recipe is vanilla protein powder – this one (affiliate link) on Amazon is my favorite – frozen blueberries, Greek yogurt, and a bit of water.
I went out for lunch with my dad earlier this week and we decided to go to the Mad Rose Pub. I went with the chicken sandwich (I swapped out the bun for lettuce). It’s hard to go wrong with anything that includes bacon and cheese. It was delicious and something that I can see my self ordering again.
Another meal I made was egg salad (I used two egg whites and one whole egg to up the protein), half of a chocolate chip muffin, beef jerky, and coleslaw.
I got the jerky from Longview Jerky Shop. It was their mandarin ginger flavor and was really good. The flavor wasn’t overwhelming but added a little bit of interest. If you’re local to Calgary you can find them at the Calgary Farmer’s Market.
I was clearly all about the coleslaw this week because it made another appearance. This time I paired it with some pork gyoza. I got the gyoza from Costco and to be honest I wasn’t expecting them to be amazing, but they turned out to be pretty good.
I skipped on the sauce that came with them and opted for some soy sauce instead. Considering the fact that they were super easy to heat up and tasty I would definitely get these again.
