Today I’m sharing a recap of my September.

September was a busy month for me, just like I’m sure it was for a lot of people. Even though I’m not a student or have children in school, September always feels a bit like a seconds start to the year. I buckle down and get back to “normal” after the summer, which means focusing more on work, both the blog and my private and small group yoga.

Strength Training

Over the summer I took my strength training up a notch. I honestly wasn’t doing much of it before, and it wasn’t on a regular basis. I decided to be more consistent with it a few months ago, and starting in September it started to feel like a regular part of my routine.

I’m doing Group Power classes 2 to 3 times per week, and cardio/yoga fills in the rest of my workouts for the week. If your gym offers Group Power classes I highly recommend that you try a couple classes out. They’re so much fun – the music is great – and I definitely wouldn’t work that heard without someone else pushing me to. Interested in finding out more about what Group Power is? Check out this post I wrote that goes over the basics and what to expect from your typical class.

Cheesy meatball bake

Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of this recipe, but the cheesy meatball bake is just as delicious as it sounds. I would recommend pairing this meal with a side of pasta or bread to scoop up the sauce. I’ve had it with both options and it’s so good! It’s hard to go wrong with meatballs, cheese, and carbs.

It’s actually pretty easy to make which is nice, because it could get complicated and time consuming making your own meatballs. I can already tell that this recipe will be a staple in our home with the colder weather coming.

Road trip to visit friends

My budget was pretty tight this year when it came to a vacation, so instead of flying somewhere, I opted for a road trip to visit some friends during the first week of September. We’d been friends since we were all teens (now that I think about it, we’v been friends for 22 years or so – which makes me feel really old), and I’m so grateful that we’ve been able to keep that connection despite living in different cities, going to school, kids, and all the things that make us busy as adults and lose touch with friends.

It felt so good to get out of Calgary for a few days and just have a break from my usual routine. I got to spend a ton of time with their kids who I absolutely adore. I usually see them a few times a year and they always change so much between each visit.

I’ve been able to sneak in some reading this month despite the fact that it’s been busy. I’m currently reading Midnight in Chernobyl (affiliate link) and Then She Was Gone (affiliate link). Midnight in Chernobyl recounts the events of the explosion and what happened afterwards. Then She Was Gone follows a women how’s daughter disappeared years ago and how she’s dealt with it.

Both of those books were ones that someone recommended to be or someone shared that they enjoyed them. I love hearing what other people are reading, so share your latest book recommendations in the comments below. I’m always looking to add books to my to be read list.

October is gearing up to be a fun month. Along with some behind the scenes stuff on the blog, I’m scouting out some more locations for yoga classes and workshops. I actually have an appointment to check out a space that I’m super excited about. It’s also fall which is my favorite season which mean that I’m soaking in all of the cooler weather, leaves, and cozy sweaters.
