Good morning from a very cold and snowy Calgary! I knew for a few days that a snow storm was going to blow in this weekend, and it sure did. A heavy snowfall warning was issued Sunday morning and it still hasn’t stopped snowing. I’m very grateful that I didn’t have to be anywhere yesterday and I didn’t have to deal with the snow and roads.
Let me back up a bit though and share some of the highlights of my weekend.
I wore a new sweater on Friday I’m absolutely loving. I got it from Gap while they were having one of their 40% off sales. I got it in navy, but they also had a really pretty turquoise color that I also considered. It’s light which makes it perfect for layering. It’s soft and warm but also machine washable which is a must for me. I can already tell that it’s going to be a staple during the colder months. You can find the sweater here (affiliate link).
Friday night I headed over to my boyfriend’s place for date night. We decided to keep it low key and just stay in for the night. We heated up some chicken tangine. It was my first time eating it and I really liked it. It’s definitely something that I would eat again. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to try it!
We spent a lot of time playing with my boyfriend’s Buldog, Winston while we were watching Netflix. We gave him a new tennis ball to play with and it kept him busy for a few hours before we had to take it away from him because he was chewing off little pieces. Apparently my leg was the perfect height to chew on the tennis ball!
We split a black currant wheat ale from Phillips Brewing. We both really liked it. It had a touch of sweetness from the currants without being overwhelming. It’s definitely a beer that I would tend to like more than my boyfriend, but he liked it too.
For dessert I bought a couple strawberry cupcakes. They were amazing – the cake was perfect, the cream cheese frosting was delicious, and it’s hard to go wrong with strawberries. It’s a good thing that we only had one each because it would have been really easy to eat more than one.
Most of the time when I’m at my boyfriend’s place Winston is too excited to fall asleep for the night. Having a person there – even though it’s me who he sees all the time – is just different enough to keep him from relaxing enough to sleep. Well on Friday night he ended up napping for awhile which hasn’t happened since he was a puppy! Hopefully this means that he’ll eventually be able to fall asleep with no problems when I’m there. He’s so worried that he’s going to miss out on something fun or exciting.
Saturday morning I headed out to the gym for a cardio workout. It felt great to get sweaty after all the food on Friday night. I did some steady state cardio on the elliptical followed by a quick cool down on the track.
I had some errands to get done on Saturday, one of which included checking out a used clothing sale near me. It looked like it had a lot of potential with some cool vintage and higher end items, but unfortunately it was a bust for me. It was really busy so it was hard to even look at the clothing and it was tough to find sizes. Oh well, it was worth a try at least.
While it started snowing Saturday morning, it didn’t really start sticking to the ground until later on in the day. Sunday morning when I woke up there was snow on the grass, and I took the below photo around noon on Sunday. The snow was starting to pile up!
Calgary is forecasted to get up to 25 centimeters (10 inches) by tonight when it finally stops snowing. I don’t think the snow will stay for too long, as it’s supposed to get up above the freezing point later this week. It was just a bit of a shock to the system to have so much snow so early in the fall.
Needless to say, I spent a good chunk of Sunday inside and under a blanket reading Midnight in Chernobyl (affiliate link) and Then She was Gone (affiliate link). Midnight in Chernobyl is a pretty dense and heavy book, so it was nice to switch off to a more light book when I needed a break.
This week is shaping up to be a fun one. I have two yoga classes that I’m planning on attending – I haven’t been to a class in awhile so it’s a treat to have someone else doing the planning and sequencing for me. The one on Thursday night is being led by a favorite teacher of mine so I’m really looking forward to it.
Share the highlight of your weekend in the comments below. I’d love to hear about the stuff that you got up to over the last few days.
