Today I’m sharing some of the things that have been going on in my world over the last month.

More strength training

For the last 4 or 6 weeks I’ve been doing Group Power (the Y’s version of Body Pump) on a regular basis. I’ve been averaging 2 to 3 classes per week and I’ve really been enjoying them. You change the plates on the barbell pretty much every track because you alternate upper body and lower body.

It’s been really good to be doing strength training on a more regular basis. I’m usually all about the cardio, so strength has always been something that I had to talk myself into. If you aren’t a fan of it either, I’d encourage you to try out a class and see what you think of it!

Getting mail

I’ve been enjoying getting things by snail mail this month. There’s just something that’s fun about opening up an envelope that’s from a friend and finding a birthday card or thank you note inside.

These days it’s so easy to send a text or a quick email, that receiving something in the mail is all that much more special. I’ve decided that I’m going to commit to send more birthday cards and notes through the mail so that I can make someone else’s day too.

Community

Since my boyfriend got his Bulldog puppy Winston (he turns 1 in a few weeks so I won’t be able to call him a puppy much longer) and the weather has been nice we’ve discovered a dog community is his neighborhood that we had no idea existed before.

We now know the names of the staff and owners at his neighborhood pub because they always come out and give Winston a pet on his afternoon walks. The craft beer store has a bowl of treats that they give out to dogs when they go past on their walks. Most of the employees there know Winston by name. We know all the stores and businesses that put out water bowls for dogs.

It was surprising to me how much of a community existed around dogs. My boyfriend had lived there for years before getting Winston, yet he didn’t know most of those people before. There’s something about dogs that allow you to break down barriers and connect with each other.
