Another one of summer’s long weekends is in the books. Monday was a stat holiday for those of us in Canada, which meant that I kind of got a long weekend – I had to work yesterday morning at the yoga studio, but I had the rest of the day off.

It’s hard to believe that we only have one more long weekend before the unofficial end of summer after Labor Day. This summer has flown by. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been busier than usual this year or what, but it feels like it was only May last week.

Here are some of my highlights of the week.

Friday night I was feeling lazy so I ordered donair on Skip the Dishes. It’s been awhile since I’ve last eaten it (even though I love it), so it tasted extra good. Along with the donair, I got a pita, hummus (unpictured), rice, and Greek salad. I ended up saving the other half of it for lunch on Saturday.

Saturday morning I headed over to my gym for a Group Power class (it’s the Y’s version of Body Pump). I took it a bit easier than I usually would because I knew that I wanted to do another Group Power class in 24 hours and I didn’t want to be too sore.

It was still a great workout. I ended up going a bit heavier for the lunge track and I’m glad I did because it definitely felt heavier while I was doing it but I wasn’t too sore afterwards.

Saturday night was date night, so I headed over to my boyfriend’s place. I had bought Winston a rope toy earlier in the week, and as you can see from the photo below it was a hit.

Winston is pretty good at destroying toys, so I’m glad this it’s still in one piece two days later. There’s just something about his determination and sharp puppy teeth that goes through toys like they’re nothing.

We couldn’t decide on what to have for dinner, so we ended up just picking something that was close by – Native Tongues for tacos. It had been awhile since I was last there, but the tacos were as delicious as I had remembered.

We went with Mexican street corn as a side which was such a tasty decision. I don’t know how they did it, but it was so good! I’m pretty sure I could have eaten all the corn by myself.

Because we apparently weren’t full after all of that food, we walked over to Village for some ice cream afterwards. They can have some pretty long lines to get in during the summer, but it surprisingly wasn’t too bad on Saturday night. We were in and got out ice cream before I knew it. I went with Boston Cream, which is a seasonal flavor that they only have for the month of August.

Once we got back to my boyfriend’s place we watched most of a movie. It ended up being nearly 3 hours long and I was getting tired. I’m clearly not the same party animal what I was in my 20’s when I was in university. The 12 year age difference was pretty clear!

Sunday morning I was up bright and early for another Group Power class. One of my favorite instructors was teaching it, so I knew it was going to be a great class. Since it was the long weekend the class was about half the size that it usually is, which was kind of nice because we had lots of space to spread out.

Sunday afternoon I went for a walk with my dad to a nearby neighborhood to check out their botanical gardens. I’ve somehow never checked them out during the summer – only the fall and winter after the first frost, so I’ve never seen anything blooming.

Needless to say I was pretty blown away by how beautiful everything was. I’m pretty sure that it’s all run by volunteers. It’s amazing to see how much work they clearly put into everything. I’ll definitely be checking it out more often now that I know how beautiful it is.

Monday morning I worked at the yoga studio. The main road outside of the studio was shut down for a street festival and bike race. I’m not much of a cyclist, so I can definitely appreciate how much training and skill goes into getting ready for something like this.

I helped set up the booth and got to talk to a ton of people who stopped by about yoga. I’m an introvert, but I realized how much I have to say about yoga yesterday morning. So many people who hadn’t tried it before were concerned that they weren’t flexible enough. Yoga truly isn’t about being bendy – there’s modifications for stiff joints and injuries.

After going home to get some blogging work done, I was back at the yoga studio in the evening to take one of my favorite yin classes. The teacher is so great and I always really enjoy her classes. It was a great way to end a long weekend.
