I hope you all had a great weekend – mine was full of lots of fun stuff. It was my dad’s birthday on Friday, so I spent part of the day with him and my brother to celebrate. Saturday I got to pet a ton of dogs. Sunday I was went to a group fitness class at my gym and then outdoor yoga in the afternoon.
Friday morning I offered to make my dad whatever he wanted for breakfast. He requested pancakes with blueberries and whipped cream, so that’s what he got.

The recipe made way more pancakes than the two of us could eat so I put a bunch of them in the freezer for him to pop into the toaster to reheat down the road.
My brother and I them took him out for his birthday lunch. My dad requested Italian, so we went to Chianti’s. It’s been a year or two since I was last there.

It was just as tasty as I had remembered. I went with fettuccine with chicken, bell pepper, tomato, spinach, and artichokes topped with a cream sauce. It was delicious, though it was a ton of food so I was only able to eat half of it. My brother ended up taking home the rest of it.

That afternoon I baked my dad his birthday cake. He requested chocolate cake with butterscotch ice cream. It turned out to be a pretty tasty combination.
Saturday morning started early for me when I headed to the gym to get in a cardio workout on the elliptical.

I spent 30 minutes on the elliptical doing steady state cardio before I did a quick 5 minute cool down on the track. It may not have been a very long workout, but I was super sweaty by the time I was done.
Once I was showered and dressed I headed downtown to meet up with my boyfriend and his Bulldog puppy, Winston. We had plans to head to Pet a Palooza.

On the walk over to Pet a Palooza we stopped a few times to give Winston a water break. My boyfriend has a portable water dish that wraps around a water bottle, so it’s super easy to make sure that Winston has water when he needs it.

Once we’d arrived at Pet a Palooza we were both shocked at how many people and dogs that were there. It was super busy – apparently Calgary is passionate about their dogs! Winston loved socializing with the other dogs and getting all the attention from people, getting pets and compliments on how cute he is.

It was a warm day so I bought him some dog ice cream. They had quite a few flavors to pick from, but I figured I would go with peanut butter since he loves it so much.

I must have made the rice decision because he slurped it down pretty quickly. Besides the peanut butter flavor I think he also liked it because it was nice and cold.
We walked back to my boyfriend’s place to drop off Winston and then my boyfriend and I headed out to lunch. We decided on going to Regrub for lunch. They’re known for their burgers and milkshakes. Check out this post about the last time we ate at Regrub.

I went with the Vintage burger which was your basic burger, but it was delicious. My boyfriend decided to get the Doctor Peanut milkshake with his meal. It was pretty impressive when they brought it out to our table.

We stopped by the Italian Store where I picked up some spicy capicola and olives. They have a huge deli with all kinds of meats, cheeses, and olives.

When we got back to my boyfriend’s place we shared this strawberry and rhubarb sour beer while we watched the original Ghostbusters movie from the 80’s. It was really good – you could still taste a hint of strawberry in it. It’s definitely a beer that I would buy again.

Sunday morning I was back at the gym for a Group Power class which is essentially the Y’s version of Body Pump. Since it was my second time going through the July release I had an idea of what I was doing this time.

I was still a bit sore from the chest presses and chest flyes, so I made sure to make sure that I wasn’t pushing myself too hard. It was still a great workout and I was breathing hard and sweaty in no time.

For lunch I reheated a leftover grilled burger and paired it with some beef jerky and shredded cabbage. I’ve been trying to eat more protein after my doctor wanted me to increase my intake of it. It’s been a bit of an adjustment, but I’m figuring it out.

Sunday afternoon I headed out to Baker Park to help out with outdoor yoga. It was another beautiful day to do yoga outside. It was the perfect temperature in the shade and there was a nice breeze too.
