The Banker’s Wife
I’ve been reading The Banker’s Wife (affiliate link) by Cristina Alger this week and it’s been a page turner. I don’t want to put it down when I set down to start reading. Here’s the synopsis from Amazon:
On an early morning in November, a couple boards a private plane bound for Geneva, flying into a storm. Soon after, it simply drops off the radar, and its wreckage is later uncovered in the Alps. Among the disappeared is Matthew Werner, a banking insider at Swiss United, a powerful offshore bank. His young widow, Annabel, is left grappling with the secrets he left behind, including an encrypted laptop and a shady client list. As she begins a desperate search for answers, she determines that Matthew’s death was no accident, and that she is now in the crosshairs of his powerful enemies.
Meanwhile, ambitious society journalist Marina Tourneau has finally landed at the top. Now that she’s engaged to Grant Ellis, she will stop writing about powerful families and finally be a part of one. Her entry into the upper echelons of New York’s social scene is more appealing than any article could ever be, but, after the death of her mentor, she agrees to dig into one more story. While looking into Swiss United, Marina uncovers information that implicates some of the most powerful men in the financial world, including a few who are too close to home. The story could also be the answer to Annabel’s heartbreaking search–if Marina chooses to publish it.
If you like international thrillers this is definitely the book for you. I’m about halfway through so far and I highly recommend it so far.
Gap ballet flats
If you follow me on Instagram (getfitfiona), you’ll know that I found a great deal on some really cute shoes from the Gap this week.
I have big feet – I usually wear a 10.5 or 11. Not all brands or stores carry those sizes, so it can be tough to find cute shoes in my size. It can also be tough to find them on sale.

I was at the mall earlier this week when I decided to take a quick look in the Gap. I found these shoes on a rack with a bunch of other shoes that were on sale. When I saw that they were in a color that I had been looking for and my size, I knew I wanted to try them on.
They fit perfectly, so because there was no tag on them I took them up to the til to find out how much they were. It turns out that they were only $5! Needless to say, I snapped them up. I’m pretty excited that I got such a good deal on them – it doesn’t happen very often for me. Although I wouldn’t find this exact pair online, here’s a few similar alternatives, here (affiliate link) and here (affiliate link).
Brunch
I went out for brunch with my brother and dad on Sunday. I can’t even remember the last time that I went out to eat and ordered breakfast food. It was really nice to be able to spend time with my family and eat some delicious food doing it. I’m very grateful to live in the same city as my immediate family and spend time with them as often as I do.

I ordered two eggs sunny side up, a couple pieces of bacon, multi grain toast, fruit, and potatoes. I ate all of it minus some of the bacon and all the potatoes, which my dad and brother took care of for me. The meal was delicious – really it’s hard to go wrong with breakfast at a restaurant.
