Today I’m sharing an update on some life stuff.

June has been a busy month for me, but in the best possible way. I’ve had some pretty sun things on the go over the past few weeks and it’s been both exciting and stressful.

I’m a business owner

Yep, you read that right, I own my own business now! I figured I should make it official now that I’m a yoga teacher. I’ll be offering private yoga for individuals as well as for weddings. Think day of the wedding private yoga for brides and small group yoga for bachelorette parties. I bring all the mats and props with me so all you need to do is the yoga.

I’m super excited to be offering private and small group yoga. If you live in Calgary and that’s something that interests you, email me and we can connect!

I knew that starting a small business would be a lot of work, and it definitely has been so far. I didn’t realize that there would be so much paperwork and things to get done before I could actually start making money! I’ve only ever had to take one business class in university and unfortunately I didn’t really learn much in it.

In all honesty I feel like a lot of so far has been getting out of my comfort zone and just going out and getting things done even if I don’t know 100% how to do it, or what steps to take. I’ve hired and found lots of knowledgeable people so far who have been able to make it easier for me and have given me some great advice. The entrepreneurial community in Calgary is pretty great and more than willing to connect me with people and give me referrals.

It’s definitely been tough because I’m someone who likes to know exactly what I’m doing and how things will turn out. Not having the knowledge of how to start a business myself, it’s been a bit stressful relying on other people, even if they are great at what they do. I’m so used to doing everything on my own.

I’ve been losing weight

Long story short, my doctor wanted me to lose some weight. It had snuck up gradually and without me really noticing over the last few years, and it was time to do something about it.

I’ve been eating better (more vegetables and protein) and working out more and I’m seeing the results now. It’s been a few months now since I started and it’s feeling so good now that I can see the changes I’ve been making pay off. My clothes fit better and I’ve had a buy a lot of new ones because the other ones didn’t fit anymore. It’s a good thing that I’ve discovered a really great consignment store near me, because replacing clothes can be expensive otherwise. Thankfully I’ve found a ton of great deals there – everything from tops to coats to jeans.

I have more energy and I’m feeling better – less headaches, less upset stomachs, and just general wellness.

For me it’s been about making small and sustainable changes – things that I can do long term to help me stay healthy. Adding a side salad to lunches and dinners, at least 5 days of exercise each week, and tracking my food intake are all things that I can see myself continuing to do. Completely overhauling my diet and physical activity might work for awhile, but it definitely won’t last long term.

Feeling better about myself and following through on making healthier choices has also given my self esteem a boost. It’s always nice when that happens, isn’t it? I feel like I’m better able to translate my success in losing weight to other parts of my life like making self care a priority or getting together with friends more often.
