I hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was pretty good. If you’re a mom, I hope you were spoiled. For those of you for whom Mother’s Day is complicated, I hope you took care of yourself. My weekend was a good mix of workouts, having fun, and relaxing. I did yoga, a cardio workout, went out for date night, and spent some time at a Starbucks.

Friday kicked off my weekend in the best possible way – I went to a flow and restore yoga class taught by a really good friend of mine. She’s had subs for the last few weeks, and while they were great, they just weren’t my friend. Apparently I wasn’t the only one missing her because a bunch of her regular students were catching up with her both before and after class.

We worked hard for the first half of the class, working up a sweat like I always do in her class. I think working for hard for 45 or 50 minutes makes the restorative part of the class feel all that much more relaxing. During the flow part of the class she had a really interesting warrior I > exalted warrior >high lunge > revolved lunge > warrior 2 sequence. I’m going to have to re-create that at home because it flowed so well and felt really good.

I spent Friday night at home. It was a low key night but I managed to finally finish reading The President is Missing (affiliate link). It felt like I had been reading it forever. The person who I thought was the mole in the White House was the mole! I won’t give anything away, but if you’re looking for a fun thriller to read, check it out.

Saturday morning I headed over to the gym to get my last cardio workout of the week in. I spent 40 minutes on the elliptical doing steady state cardio. I once again listened to my 90’s boy band playlist (that link goes to the playlist on Spotify) and as a result the time flew by.

I ended up barbecuing hamburgers for my lunch and they tasted so good! They were the first barbecued ones I’d had this year, so I think they tasted extra good because of that. There’s just something about barbecuing that makes it taste so much better than just making it in the kitchen.

Saturday night my boyfriend and I got together for date night. It was really nice out (20 C or 70 F), so we decided to go for a walk and check out 17th Ave. It’s a street just south of downtown here in Calgary known for it’s restaurants, pubs, and stores.

We ended up at PinBar. It’s basically a bar that is full of pinball machines and arcade games. It felt like a bit of a blast from the past walking in there with all the machines lining the walls. We ordered dinner (I got the turkey salad which was really good with smoked turkey, pork belly, dried cranberries, candied walnuts, and cheddar cheese).

Afterwards we decided to play a game. I went with the Ghostbusters pinball machine. I think the last time I had played pinball was 20 years ago in junior high, so I was a bit rusty to say the least. It was fun though, and I ended up beating my boyfriend’s score, so I was happy with that.

We got there around dinner time (6 pm) and it wasn’t too crowded – we were able to have a conversation and talk, but apparently later on it gets quite busy. Depending on what you’re going to Pinbar for, time your visit accordingly!

When we got back to my boyfriend’s place his puppy was ready to play so we indulged him with playing “fetch” (he’s still working on bringing the toys back to us) and getting in some quality cuddle time. He definitely has his moments of puppy trouble making, but he’s so incredibly cute that it’s hard to stay mad at him for too long.

I spent Sunday morning working from Starbucks getting some blog work done. I’m always so focused and get a ton done when I’m out of the house and working on my laptop. I think it’s because I don’t have the distractions of everything at home.

Sunday night my dad, brother, and I had dinner together. Getting dinner was a bit of a mess, but we ended up at one of our favorite restaurants – a neighborhood pub after driving for an hour and trying to get in at three other restaurants.

We ended up having a really good meal together though, and my caprese chicken sandwich was so good! I was a balsamic marinated chicken breast, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and pesto on a ciabatta bun. It was just as delicious as it sounds. This is one of those meals that I’m going to have to re-create at home.
