Before I get into the real topic of this blog post, I wanted to share about my workout yesterday.
I almost didn’t go to the gym. I didn’t sleep very well (I was wide awake at midnight) and felt pretty tired when my alarm went off at 5:30 am. It took some time and a lot of motivation, but I finally got up and dressed, ate a piece of toast with peanut butter, and went to the gym.

Of course it was one of those workouts where I felt amazing after, and I’m so glad that I got to the gym. I spent 30 minutes on the elliptical and other than a 5 minute warm up at the beginning, I pushed myself hard. I knew that it would be worth it in the end.
I was thoroughly tired by the time I cooled down by walking the track, but I’m glad that I got it done. I might have gotten an extra hour of sleep if I had skipped the gym, but instead I did something that was good for my body.
And now onto the birthday part of the post!
Another year is over and I’m 365 years older! I turn 36 today. That feels so old. Over the past few weeks I’eve realized how old some of my favorite things are.
- Sixteen Stone by Bush was my absolute favorite album from when I was a teenager. It was released in 1994 – 24 years ago.
- ER, my all time favorite show that I watched from junior high all the way through until after I graduated from university also debuted in 1994.
I moved to Calgary with my family 23 years ago. - I graduated from high school 17 years ago.
- I finished my bachelors of Health Sciences degree 12 years ago.
- My first blog post here on Get Fit Fiona was 7 years ago. Check out my very first post here.
How is it possible that all those things happened so long ago? It makes me feel so old to think back, but at the same time it doesn’t feel like all that long ago. The years go by so quickly now.

This year’s birthday celebrations were pretty low key. I saw my boyfriend on Saturday night. He had brought home a new bulldog puppy the day before, so I was really looking forward to meeting him and giving him belly rubs. He;s even cuter in person if that’s possible.

When my boyfriend had asked earlier what I wanted for my birthday I said nothing, but he ended up surprising me with a box of my absolute favorite chocolates. I can pretty much guarantee that they won’t last for long.
Tonight I’m having a birthday dinner with my family. Indian food is my favorite (hello samosas, butter chicken, paneer pakora, naan, and poppadoms) so we’re going to order take out. It should be delicious.
35 was pretty great, but I’m so excited about what 36 will bring. I’m hoping it’ll be just as good as 35 if not better.
