Another weekend is in the books! They always seem to fly by. This one was a good mix of getting things done and relaxing.

Friday

It was brutally hot on Friday – so hot in fact that Calgary broke an 80 year heat record! The temperature reached 37 C or 98 F for any readers in the US. Most houses aren’t built with air conditioning here, though you can always have it installed of course. It made yesterday pretty miserable. I was sweating just sitting on the couch and laying in bed. It’s been pretty smokey too because of forest fires to the west, so it wasn’t at all fun to be outside on Friday.

As a result of the weather I ended up staying in. I watched a couple episode of The X Files and then read. I’m about a quarter of the way through The Violets of March (affiliate link) so far and I’m really liking it. It’s been awhile since I last read a book that I really connected with, so I’m enjoying it while I  can.

Saturday

I started off my morning at the gym with a gentle yoga class. It was my first time attending the class and I was thinking that it was going to be more of a restorative class, but I was happily surprised to find that it was more of a regular class.

When I signed in at the desk the staff didn’t think there would be many people in class, but there were probably 12 or 15 people which I thought was a pretty healthy class size for a Saturday morning.

Saturday afternoon I got together with my boyfriend. We walked over to The Brewer’s Apprentice to check out some craft beer. One of the employees that works there brings her dog, Eddie, in when she’s working. I’ve been a few times now, but Saturday was the first time that I got to meet Eddie.

If he looks a bit sad in that photo it’s because he was sure it was dinner time but his owner said that he was an hour early. Dogs get so dramatic when there’s food at stake! I ended up getting a Park Life Passionfruit Ale from Bomber Brewing. It was really good – you can really taste the passionfruit in it.

My boyfriend and I ended up watching a couple movies on the couch. We decided to do something simple for dinner and cooked a frozen pizza. It had butternut squash and spinach on it and was actually pretty good considering it came from the freezer.

Sunday

My day started off slow and I decided to read The Violets of March for a bit before getting out of bed. I’m usually one of those people who gets out of bed right away after waking up, so it was definitely a change of pace for me. It goes to show just how much I’m enjoying the book.

After getting some groceries and blog work done (including working on this post), I watched another episode of Orphan Black. I’m 5 or 6 episodes in and I’m still really enjoying it. If you’re looking for something new to watch I’d highly recommend it.

It ended up being a pretty great weekend. It felt like a good combination of being productive with getting things done and also enjoying myself. I love when my weekends turn out like that.
