In the usual Friday fashion over here on Get Fit Fiona, I’m sharing my Friday Favorites today.

Friday Favorites

Woohoo! It’s Friday and I’m so glad that the weekend is here! Work was really busy again this week, so I’m looking forward to a few slower paced days. Fridays are usually date nights for my boyfriend and I, but he has a friend visiting from out of town this weekend. While they’re doing their guys weekend I’ll be on the couch watching a new episode of Blue Bloods and maybe even Dateline. I never get to see Blue Bloods when it first airs on Fridays, so I’m kind of looking forward to tonight.

The weather is supposed to be nice all weekend, so I see some outdoor time in my future to take advantage of it after the long (and cold) winter we had here in Calgary. There’s supposed to be some rain on both Saturday and Sunday, but the temperatures will be in the 20’s C (68 F for my American readers), so I’m hoping that the rain won’t last too long.

I’m also hoping to try working out for the first time since my foot started acting up. While I’ve done walks, this will be my first time to the gym to test the waters. I’m thinking I’ll spend some time on the elliptical because that will be low impact. I’m hoping it goes well and I can get back to it!

Tarte Maracuja Oil

I bought this oil a couple months ago, but I’ve only been using it for a couple weeks now because I wanted to finish up the oil I was using. Now that I’ve been using the Tarte Maracuja Oil (affiliate link) for almost a month now, I thought it was safe to way that it’s a new favorite for me. A little foes a long way with this oil (I usually use 3 drops), so I can see the bottle lasting me months.

I have a couple stubbornly dry spots on my face – on my chin and around my lips – so I’m applying moisturizer at least a couple times a day. Unfortunately it still gets dry and flaky, but it’s been so much better while using the oil. I add a few drops to my moisturizer, mix it all together, and then apply it to my face. It doesn’t take a lot of extra time or effort to add to my morning routine, but it makes all the difference to my skin.

If you also struggle with spots of dry skin on your face, I highly recommend it. It didn’t make me break out (which was a big concern before I started using it) and helps so much with keeping my skin moisturized.

Final Girls

I’m reading Final Girls (affiliate link) right now. I’m nearly done and don’t have too much more to go, but I can say that I’ve really enjoyed reading it. I think I first heard about it from Julie over at PB Fingers, and since I put it on hold at the library I’ve been seeing it everywhere. Apparently I’m not the only one who’s been reading it lately.

It took me about 50 pages to really get into it, but now every time I start reading it, I have a part time putting it down. Sunday night I stayed up until nearly 11 pm reading. I’m usually in bed with the light off by 9:30 or 10, so that just goes to show how much I was enjoying Final Girls. I kept telling myself that I would turn the light off after I finished the next chapter, but then I just had to read one more. If you’re looking for a thriller to read that’s hard to put down, this is definitely a book you should check out.

Lambic Beer

St Louis Fond Tradition Kriek Lambic beer

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time you’ll know that I’m a fan of fruity beers, including lambics. I tried this one from St Louis this past weekend and I really liked it. It was a bit higher in alcohol and more bitter (or sour?) than the lambics that I’m used to, but I really liked it, even though it was a bit different from what I was expecting. I’ll definitely be getting this one again.

I never used to be someone who would try a lot of new beers – why mess with what you know you like? But lately all the beers I’ve been drinking have been new to me. I have yet to pick one that’s been completely terrible, so I think I’m getting better at figuring out which ones I’ll like and avoiding the ones that I won’t enjoy. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I tried my first radler and lambic, both of which I absolutely love now. Are you someone who likes to try new things or stick with your favorites?
