Today I’m sharing the highlights of April – including checking out a Canada Learning Code workshop, food trucks, and going to the farmer’s market.
Once again, April was a busy month for me. Work ramped up again, so I’ve been working lots and have been on the go when I’m there. I’m slowly being able to work a bit more outside as the weather gets nicer, so I’m really enjoying that. Being able to work outside in the sun sure beats having to be inside.
Earlier in the month I was able to attend the Make It Show. I picked up some amazing cherry jam made from rescued fruit. I was actually able to find a few things that I’d like to get for family members for gifts, so I made sure to grab business cards from those artisans.
I attended a Canada Learning Code work session where I got a ton of work done. It was great to re-connect with some people that I hadn’t seen in a long time. I used to go to their evens regularly, but with school I wasn’t able to make it to them very often. The next work session is tomorrow, which I’m really looking forward to.
I also made a visit to a farmer’s market that I hadn’t been to in a really long time. I ended up coming home with a bunch of great finds, from vegetables to vegan Thai food.
I’m very grateful that winter is behind us this year, and I can get out and about more now that I don’t have to worry about the snow and cold. I’m much more likely to go out when the weather is nice versus having to bundle up and then brave slippery roads.
In terms of reading, I finished 3 books in April – The One Thing (affiliate link), The Luxe (affiliate link), and Adnan’s Story (affiliate link). While they were all pretty different, I really enjoyed reading all of them. If professional development and productivity is your thing, I think you’ll enjoy The One Thing. If you’re looking for a quick, easy read that doesn’t require a lot of thought, The Luxe is one you’ll want to read. For anyone else who listened to season one of the Serial podcast, Adnan’s Story is a great behind the scenes look at the trial.
There haven’t been many workouts going on this month. First I was dealing with some pretty bad plantar fasciitis in one foot, followed by some pretty bad pain in the other foot. Every step I took hurt, which got worse as the day went on. After 4 days of icing my foot, taking it easy, and it still not feeling any better, I decided that I had to see a doctor. He ended up sending me for an x-ray, wanting to rule out a stress fracture and wrote me a prescription for a medication to deal with the pain.
Thankfully my foot is feeling so much better. I’m still icing it a couple times a day, and the medication has made a big difference. If it’s still hurting after I’m done my meds in a couple weeks, I’ll go back to see the doctor, but I’m hopeful that it’s just what the doctor thought it was (tendonitis) and it’ll be better by then. Needless to say, I’ve really been missing the gym. I can’t wait to get back at it.
