I’m sharing the highlights of my weekend in the weekend recap post.

I spent Friday night with my boyfriend for date night. We were both feeling lazy so we decided to order pizza and watch Netflix. Since beer goes so well with pizza, I decided to go with this Clown Shoes Mango American Kolsch one that was new to me. The mango flavor wasn’t too overwhelming, but it was still pretty tasty. While it definitely wasn’t a very exciting night, it was just what we needed to start off the weekend.

Saturday morning I spent some time getting some errands done. I got groceries, picked up a prescription, and did a few other things. This week I’m planning on making cheesesteak stuffed peppers, beef stroganoff, and sloppy joes. I think it’ll be a delicious week of food. The cheesesteak stuffed peppers will be the only new to me recipe this week. I haven’t had a cheesesteak sandwich in forever, so I’m really looking forward to these peppers. I found the recipe courtesy of Courtney over at Sweet Tooth Sweet Life. She shared about them last week and said that they were delicious.

I ended up picking up some pretty tulips. It’s finally starting to feel like spring here in Calgary now, so I thought I’d bring a bit of the spring feeling inside. Tulips are some of my favorite flowers because they’re some of the first ones to bloom in the spring, signalling warmer weather. Sometimes you just need some pretty flowers to look at on your desk while you’re working away. Know what I mean?

Saturday afternoon I took my dad down to the East Village area of downtown Calgary to check out a bunch of food trucks. There were probably 12 or 15 trucks all in one block, so it was great to be able to check out so many in one spot. My dad recently discovered donairs, which are really popular in the Maritime provinces. There was a food truck there that was serving Halifax style donairs, so we decided to get lunch from them.

We ended up splitting one and it was the perfect amount of food. Enough to feel full without being stuffed. It was really good – I would definitely get food from the Mighty Halifax Donair truck again. A few minutes after I took this photo the weather started to change and it started raining pretty hard and the wind picked up. I was wearing a fleece as I wasn’t expecting rain. Needless to say, the fleece didn’t keep my dry at all. I also didn’t have a hood so I was pretty wet and cold by the time we finished eating.

I was soaked by the time we walked the few blocks back to the car. It was definitely a weather fail! Although it put a bit of a damper on lunch, I’d much rather deal with rain rather than snow. It turns out that my brother also decided to check out the food trucks with some friends of his. I think my dad and I missed seeing him there by an hour or two! Thankfully it didn’t rain on my brother, though he did say that the lines were pretty long to get food at nearly all the food trucks.
I spent Sunday getting ready for the week. I made the sloppy joes for lunches this week. I also got some work done around the house – dusting and vacuuming. While it’s never actually fun doing it, it always feels so good once it’s done and I have a clean space to start off the week.
I’ve been reading Adnan’s Story (affiliate link) for the past 4 or 5 days and I got completely sucked into it this weekend. I’m about two thirds of the way through. While I’m still not sure either way – if he did it or not – I’m 100% sure that he didn’t get a fair trial. Between the state being not sharing their evidence and his lawyer not doing what she was supposed to, I don’t think it was fair. Have you listened to the Serial podcast? Do you think Adnan is innocent or guilty?
Did anyone watch the season 2 premiere of Westworld last night? I won’t be able to watch it until next weekend (so I’m trying to avoid all the spoilers online), but I can’t wait to see what happens. I’m really looking forward to the music too. The season 2 trailer had a great, slow version of Nirvana’s Heart Shaped Box. If you haven’t seen season 1 you absolutely have to watch it!
