Today I’m sharing the highlights of my weekend today.
I ended up finishing up at work a bit early on Friday, so I met up with my dad to grab some food at Original Joe’s, a chain of pubs here in Calgary. While they’ve been around for a few years now, I don’t think I’ve ever eaten at an Original Joe’s before. I decided on the drunken noodle bowl. It had bean sprouts, carrots, rice noodles, chicken, and chopped cashews. You could request how much spice you wanted in it, so I went with a mild version. It was a delicious meal and the perfect way to start off my weekend. The food and service was good, so I’ll be sure that I’ll be back to an Original Joe’s before too long.
Friday night was date night with my boyfriend. I tried this Leinenkugel’s Lemon Shandy for the first time. It was a delicious shandy. While it’s still on the cold side here in Calgary, I think that this would be the perfect drink for a get together on a patio on a hot summer day. We ended up watching Jumanji. My boyfriend was surprised that I hadn’t seen the first one. Unfortunately I didn’t make through to the end of the movie because I fell sleep about half way through. I had woken up really early (3:30 am) and wasn’t able to fall back asleep, so 10 pm felt like midnight to me. I’m such a party pooper.
Thankfully I slept a lot better on Friday night and I even slept in to 7:30 am. For someone who struggles with sleep sometimes, I’m so grateful when I have nights where I sleep really well. Saturday morning started off with a blueberry lemon scone from Cob’s. Just like with everything from there, it was delicious. In fact, I think it might be one of my favorites. If you live near a Cob’s location, I would highly recommend you try one out the next time you’re there.
I got a bunch of errands done Saturday morning – everything from stopping at the bank to getting some grocery shopping done. Luckily they didn’t take as long as I had anticipated, so I had the rest of Saturday to work on some behind the scenes things on my blog.
I’m currently in the middle of redoing the pages on my blog. Katy from Make Media Over recommended that I try Beaver Builder to redo them without having to mess with any code. I’m so glad she did because it’s amazing! If you have a blog and you don’t know any code (I know just enough to break things), I highly recommend you try Beaver Builder. It’s a WYSIWYG editor, and super easy to use and make your website look exactly how you want without knowing code. It took me about an hour to get the hang of it, and then I was off redoing pages. So far I’ve completed my yoga, soccer, and beauty pages. I’m about half way through completing my workouts page, so I’m hoping to finish that tonight after I’m done work. Redoing my pages should make it easier to find the posts you’re looking for, so I’ll be an improvement over how most of them are now.
After sleeping in again on Sunday I headed out to the farmer’s market. I left with a pretty good haul of some fruits and vegetables, pepperoni sticks, bagels, some cranberry and orange scones, and some Thai vegan food. I hadn’t been to that farmer’s market in a year or two, so it was nice to check it out again and see some of the new vendors that weren’t there the last time I had been there. It typically pretty busy on the weekends, but I was surprised that it actually wasn’t too bad on Sunday morning. Crowds aren’t my thing, so I was grateful that it was slower than it usually is because it can be hard to even find a parking spot in the parking lot sometimes.
I picked up quite a bit of food from Heart’s Choices, They’re a local Calgary company that sells vegan Thai food. It all comes frozen, which is perfect for me because I can stock up when I’m at the farmer’s market. I absolutely love their peanut satay sauce, so I picked up two of them, along with some dumplings and “spareribs” made from soy. I typically cook up the ribs with some veggies and brown rice.
Sunday afternoon after working on my blog with Beaver Builder for a few hours, I needed a break and decided to go get a Booster Juice. They’re a Canadian company that makes smoothies and juices. I used to get them a lot when I was in university, as there was one not far from campus. I went with my favorite Strawberry Sunshine flavor that has strawberries, bananas, guava, passion fruit, and yogurt.
We’re expecting a lot of snow today in Calgary – so much that a heavy snowfall warning has been issued. I’m really looking forward to when the snow will be over for the year. It’s mid April already and we’re still getting big dumps of the white stuff. This winter has felt really long and cold, and I’m just over it at this point. It should warm up by the end of the week, so I’m hoping that the snow will melt within a few days. I have my fingers crossed!
