Today I’m sharing a recap of my weekend. It was a pretty fun one that started off with a hand made market and ended with getting some things done around the house and preparing for the week to come.

Friday

I started off my weekend by attending the Make It Show on Friday afternoon. Thankfully I got there early and I was able to avoid most of the crowds while I was there. There were so many amazing talented artists and creators there – everything from photographers to jewelers to painters. They had a great assortment of different artisans, and even had an entire aisle devoted to food.

I ended up picking up some fudge for my dad and a jar of cherry jam. I first got the jam last year when I was there last year, and absolutely fell in love with it. It was so good!

I then decided to stay downtown because I had a date night planned with my boyfriend later that evening. After stopping by Sweet Relief to get him a cupcake as a thank you for doing me a favor, I stopped for lunch at Sunterra. I was going to get something hot in their cafe, but when I got up there, there was a huge line. Apparently I had timed my arrival just in time for a rush and I decided that I was okay with a sandwich instead.

Blogging from Starbucks

After eating I went to a Starbucks where I got a steamed apple juice and got some blogging done. Although the steamed apple juice is on the kids menu, it’s pretty much the only hot drink that I order at Starbucks. It tasted especially good because it was bitterly cold on Friday. It was -25 C (or -13 F for my American readers) with the windchill. It most definitely doesn’t feel like spring out there.

Fruit Beer

For date night my boyfriend and I decided to make pizzas on naan bread. They turned out really good. We watched Zoolander because my boyfriend was shocked that I’d never seen it despite being a big fan of Will Ferrell. It was definitely a silly movie, and I don’t see my self watching it again. It was a bit too silly for my taste, even if Will Ferrell was in it. I tried this Liefmans beer for the first time and I really liked it. It was a fruity beer, so if that’s what you like I would highly recommend it.

Saturday

Cherry Jam

Saturday morning started bright and early with an English muffin with some of the cherry jam that I’d bought the day before. Fruits of Sherbrooke uses rescued fruit (fruit that’s either too ripe to sell or doesn’t look good enough to sell) to make jams and hosts classes on jam making and canning. It was just as good as I remembered. If you’re in Edmonton, Fruits of Sherbrooke is worth checking out.

Cold Selfie Heather

After eating breakfast I headed out to the grocery store to pick up a few things before the snow really got started. We had a heavy snowfall warning, so I knew that the roads would get bad. Thankfully the grocery store was super quiet so I was in and out in just 20 minutes. It was still really cold out, even with my winter jacket and hood up I was wishing that I had brought my scarf with me to help cover my face. It definitely doesn’t feel like spring here in Calgary with the cold temperatures and snowfall warnings. The forecast has another 10 centimeters of snow coming on Thursday. I’m just ready for some warmer weather.

The Luxe

I spent the rest of the day blogging and reading. I started reading The Luxe (affiliate link). There’s 3 or 4 books in the YA historical fiction series. Think Gossip Girl at the turn of the 20th century. It’s one of those books that doesn’t require a lot of thought but is fun to read. I’ve read the series a few years ago, but since I don’t remember anything from the books other than I liked reading them, I thought that they were worth reading again when I saw that they were available as eBooks from my library.

Sunday

I spent most of Sunday getting ready for the week. I made a batch of beef stroganoff to have for lunches this week. I use this recipe. It’s super easy to make yet still turns out delicious every time. I made a batch of egg noodles to eat it with.

Along with some housework and an episode or two of The Good Wife, it wasn’t a half bad day. This weekend was one of those weekends that even though I was productive and got stuff done, I felt like I was able to get in some down time too and go into the week feeling good.
