In today’s blog post I’m sharing my April goals.

April 2018 Goals

Another month is over and so is the first quarter of 2018. How in the world did that happen? I’m going with the fact that I’ve been busy, so that means that I’ve gotten a lot done in the first three month of 2018. While my two goals for March weren’t completely successful, I feel like I still moved forward and I’m in a better spot than I was a month ago. I’m looking forward to completing my three goals for April, one of which is something that I’ve wanted to do for awhile now.

Self care every single day.

Headspace App

This goal was a huge success for me. I meditated each day with the Headspace app – usually just before going to bed. Gossip Girl is my current guilty pleasure on Netflix. I always felt a bit guilty watching Netflix when I could have been working or doing something more productive, but in March I tried to give myself permission to enjoy watching Netflix. I also spent a bit more time on my skincare routine. I discovered started using the Aveeno Leave On Mask (affiliate link) last month and used it at night before bed.

I know it’s impossible to be “on” and working 24/7, but somehow I end up expecting that of myself. I really had to challenge myself on those thoughts and allow myself the grace to slow down a but and take it easy. I wouldn’t make anyone else guilty for not working all the time, so why should I do that to myself? I also realized that I work better after I’ve taken a break. If I go on a marathon computer session, I’m more likely to make stupid mistakes, whereas if I take a 5 or 10 minute break every hour I come back feeling better and am more productive. Practicing some self care definitely makes a difference.

I’m slowly but surely getting a bit more comfortable doing stories on Instagram (follow me here). They’re still a bit nerve wracking, but definitely not as terrifying as they were at the beginning of March. I’m also starting to get more comfortable putting photos of myself out there. I know it seems silly being as I write a blog, but when I first started I wanted to be anonymous (hence why it’s getfitfiona.com and not getfitheather.com). I never really thought that I would still be blogging, but the name of the blog has stuck. I’m trying to get better at putting myself out there, but it’s harder than it seems!

And now onto my goals for April!

Work on my ebook every day.

I’m currently working on writing an eBook, which I’m really excited about. It’s about my journey to healthy living and fitness. I think a lot of people will be able to relate to some of the same things that I struggled with, so I’m excited to finally be able to share it. While I’ve shared bits and pieces of it on the blog, this eBook will have it all laid out in one place.

Between the resources at Blogger to Author (Beth’s Facebook group is awesome too) and the motivation to write over at Camp NaNoWriMo, I’m feeling confident that I’ll have it done sooner rather than later. My goal word count on Camp NaNoWriMo is 20,000 words this month. Three days in and I’m ahead of the game, so I’m hoping to finish early before the end of April.

While an eBook has always been something that I wanted to do at some point in the future, it’s always felt just a bit too technical and out of my reach. I did some research a few weeks ago though, and I think that it’ll be easier to do than I thought. The whole formatting and selling it just seemed so out of my technical expertise, but now it definitely seeds doable with some help and advice.

Get outside 4 times each week.

Snowy Winter Boots

While it definitely still feels like winter here in Calgary (there’s still a ton of snow on the ground and there’s snow in the forecast for later this week), I’m planning on getting outside more this month. I want to spend at least a bit of time outside 4 times each week. This winter has felt especially tough with all the cold and snow, so that’s meant that I’ve spent more time inside than I usually would. It’s time for me to break my hibernation and enjoy the outdoors again. While it’s not as warm or snow free as I would like, that doesn’t mean that I can’t still enjoy the outdoors.

My time outside can be anything from a walk to a bike ride (I’m assuming it’ll be bike riding weather by the end of the month) – pretty much anything that I can do outside. It doesn’t matter what I do or now long I’m out there, as long as I’m outside of the house and taking in the vitamin D.

3 morning workouts each week.

Gym

I find that I’m most consistent with my workouts when I go to the gym first thing in the morning. As a result, I’ve decided that I want to do at least 3 workouts first thing in the morning. It’s so easy to put workouts off until later in the day, but inevitably I get busy with other things or my attention is pulled elsewhere and the workout just doesn’t happen. Don’t ever think that personal trainers are immune from lack of motivation – it hits us too!

My plan for April is to get in at least 3 early morning workouts each week. Getting back into the groove of morning workouts before work for a month should be enough time to get me back into the habit of them. It was so much easier to get there in the morning before winter came (and stayed). It’s tough to convince myself to get out of bed and head out into the cold and snow. Thankfully now that it’s getting lighter earlier and the time change we had a few weeks ago, it’s definitely easier.
