I’m sharing a recap of my weekend today. It was a pretty great weekend with a good mix of getting things done and relaxing.

Friday

Love Beauty and Planet Products

When I got home from work on Friday afternoon I found a package from Love Beauty and Planet waiting for me. I received shampoo, conditioner, and body wash to review on Chick Advisor. I’d never heard of the brand before I got the package, but all three smell amazing! I’m looking forward to giving them all a try and sharing what I think of them.

Heather Makeup Car Selfie

I usually don’t wear makeup all that often – once a week is pretty standard for me. This week though, I ended up wearing it three days. I figured that was worth a selfie on Friday as I was about to leave to go to date night. While I was only wearing powder foundation, blush, mascara, and lip gloss, it made me feel great and always gives me a boost of confidence. I really should wear it more often. I’m thinking of doing an updated post of my every day makeup products. Would that be something that you would be interested in reading?

Made By Marcus Oatmeal Cookie Dough Ice Cream

My boyfriend had bought this oatmeal cookie dough ice cream from Made By Marcus last week. He said it was really good, so that’s what we had for dessert after dinner. I thought it was pretty tasty too. The cookie dough really did taste like oatmeal cookies and there was a hint of cinnamon in the ice cream. If you’re in Calgary I would highly recommend picking up a pint of it.

Made by Marcus is opening a new location in Hillhurst/Sunnyside so I’m pretty excited that I’ll have another place to get their ice cream. Even better is that this location is closer to me!

Our date night was fairly low key. We made dinner (quesadillas) and caught up on a couple new episodes of Ash Vs. The Evil Dead. My boyfriend got me hooked on the show, even though it’s not something that I would typically watch. I’m always surprised when the episodes end because I’m expecting them to be an hour long instead of just 30 minutes. Is anyone else watching the new season?

Saturday

Vegetable and Flower Seeds

I spent most of Saturday getting some laundry done and doing some work on the blog. Around lunch time I took a bit of a break to eat and then I planted the rest of the seeds that I wanted to start indoors. I planted a few herbs (oregano, parsley, and basil), some veggies (leeks, peppers, celery, cabbage, Swiss chard, and lettuce), as well as some flowers (poppies, scarlet flax, cosmos, marigolds, black eyed Susans, and zinnias). It’s been a few years since I’ve tried starting flowers from seed, so I’m hoping that they’ll germinate.

It’s been a long, cold, and snowy winter here in Calgary, so I’m very glad to be starting to garden. While there’s still a ton of snow outside on the ground (and there’s more snow in forecast), I’m really looking forward to spring. Knowing that I’ve planted the seeds makes it seem like spring is almost here.

Saturday night was spent on the couch watching Netflix and reading. I’m about half way through Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix (affiliate link). I’ve been flying through it because it’s my favorite book in the Harry Potter series. I can’t believe that it was released back in 2003 – it’s 15 years old already!

Sunday

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Muffins

After eating breakfast I decided to bake up some oatmeal chocolate chip muffins. While they were from a boxed mix and not from scratch, I think they turned out pretty good. Plus the kitchen smelled great once I took them out of the oven. My parents had a tough night last night, so I thought the muffins would be a nice surprise for them. They ended up going over pretty well.

Elliptical Gym

I decided to head to the gym once I was done with the muffins. While there were lots of people there for swimming lessons and group fitness classes, the actual gym wasn’t too busy, so that was a nice surprise for a Sunday morning. They’re usually pretty easy so I was grateful that there were less people there than usual. I had no problem getting on an elliptical and did 40 minutes of steady state cardio.

For some reason my heart rate just didn’t want to get up to where it usually does. I have no idea what it was, but it was a struggle to even get it in the 140’s. Usually my average heart rate for steady state cardio is in the 150’s. It was weird, but maybe it was just an off day.

Tacos

For lunch I cooked up some tacos. I’ll be eating these for dinners this week. I based it off of this recipe from Budget Bytes. I added an onion and omitted the lettuce and tortilla chips. I’d bought some corn tortillas at the grocery store, so I filled three up it was delicious. There’s just something that’s so much tastier about the corn tortillas verses the flour ones. It ended up making more food that I was expecting. It’s a good thing that it turned out really good because I’m pretty sure it’ll last me all week.

I took a nap on Sunday afternoon because I hadn’t slept very well the last few nights. It felt so good and a bit indulgent. I had a strange dream though – I was trying to cook a steak with the steam from a shower. Yep, pretty weird. Even weirder that steak isn’t a favorite of mine and can’t remember the last time I ate it.

My plan for this evening (I’m writing this Sunday afternoon) is to watch Madam Secretary, read, and then head to bed early. Did anyone else watch Madam Secretary last week? I felt so bad for Alison – what a tough situation to go through.
