My Favorite Summer Beers and Ciders

Today I thought I’d share some of my favorite beers and ciders that taste especially good during the summer. I love fruity beers and ciders. Since those are perfect for summer, that’s mostly what’s on this list.

Steigl Radler  I discovered this one at last year’s Beer Fest. As soon as I tasted the tartness of the grapefruit I was hooked. It’s perfect for the warmer summer months and perfectly refreshing.

Samuel Smith Organic Cherry Fruit Beer Although it looks dark, don’t be put off by the color. It’s not too heavy and has the perfect beer to cherry flavor combination. I know there’s a few other fruity flavors of Samuel Smith beers, but I haven’t been able to find them yet. It’s not surprising as these are from the UK.

Magner’s Irish Cider I first tried this cider at a twitter meetup. We met up at a restaurant I hadn’t been to before, so I thought I’d try something new from their drink menu. I’m glad I did because I ended up really liking it.

Somersby Blackberry Cider Also a discovery from Beer Fest, this is one of the samples that I got more than once. It was that good. It also comes in pear and apple flavors, but I think blackberry is my favorite.

Rekorderlig Wild Berries Cider I found this one at a graft beer store. As soon as I saw that it was flavored with wild berries I knew that I had to give it a try. It ended up being delicious and I’ve had it a few times now.

Rickard’s Shandy Although this was a seasonal beer when I first tried it last summer, I’m hoping that Rickard’s will be bringing it back again this summer. It was the perfect beer for a backyard barbecue or going camping. Really you can’t go wrong with anything that has lemonade in it while it’s summertime. It’s also kind of nice that it’s made here in Canada.

Fruli Strawberry Beer Another find from Beer Fest, I think this was one that I bought right after because I liked it so much. It might sound like a strange combination, but it’s so delicious! Although I’ve had Belgium style beers before, I don’t think I’ve actually had any from Belgium besides this one.

Bulwark Traditional Craft Cider From another Canadian brewery, I liked this one because it wasn’t too sweet. It had more of a dry flavor to it, so you can really taste the apple flavor.

Rickard’s Radler While I first tried this radler just last weekend, I can tell I’m going to be drinking it a lot this summer. It’s not quite as sweet as the Steigl one, it still has all the flavor that you’d expect. I this this is a new one for Rickard’s this year because if I’d seen it before I definitely would have already tried it.

Savanna Dry Cider Although I only found this cider within the last month or two, I’ve been able to find it at two pubs already. This one is also a dry cider like Bulwark. I think it’s probably the only beer/cider that I’ve tried from South Africa.
