I haven’t written any reviews for workout DVD’s in a few months, so I thought I’d post another one today. I’ll be reviewing Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred (< affiliate link). This is a great pick for working out at home as it requires minimal equipment – just dumbbells and a yoga mat if you’re working out on a hard surface.
I’ve had this DVD for a few years now and I always seem to come back to it every once in awhile. I’ve done these workouts over and over again yet I never seem to get tired of them. Luckily on this DVD Jillian Michaels comes across a lot nicer than she does on TV. There’s no yelling, only encouragement and cuing to make sure you get your form right.
One of the big draws of 30 Day Shred is that the workouts pack a great sweat session in just 20 minutes. I really like the fact that it doesn’t have to take a long time to get in a workout. If I decide to press the snooze button once or twice and I don’t have as much time as I had planned for a workout before work, this is my go to choice. Each workout starts and ends with a warm up and cool down, so you don’t have to add them to the beginning and end of your workout. I think it’s nice that that’s included in the 20 minutes so you don’t have to add on additional time.
There are three workouts on this DVD. Level one is the easiest, and level three is the toughest. It’s nice that these workouts can grow with you as you get fit. Even if you want to tone it down a day when you’re used to doing level three, you can try level one again. As with most workouts there are always modifications that can be done to make individual moves easier or harder as well.
Each workout is divided up into strength, cardio, and core sections. Each section is only a few minutes long and you rotate through them a few times. I like this kind of set up for workouts because I feel like I’m always doing something new and I don’t get bored. Doing 5 minutes of core work at the end isn’t as fun as doing 1 minute bursts throughout the workout.
