It’s time for another installment of my How to Blog series. Today I’ll be sharing how I use Hootsuite.
Each column in Hootsuite is called a stream. You can completely customize what streams you want, as well as the order that they appear. Since I use Twitter more than Facebook for my blog, my first three streams are Twitter – I have my home feed, mentions, and sent tweets. My fourth stream is my Facebook page.
One feature I really like about Hootsuite is that I can schedule tweets. You can choose to either let Hootsuite “autoschedule” them for you, or you can pick a specific time and date. I generally like to schedule them myself. Being able to schedule tweets throughout the day means I don’t have to be attached to my computer or my phone all day, yet still send tweets out throughout the day.
Just like in Twitter, you can see conversations between you and other people. You can also search for users. I really like this feature as I can search for a Twitter user and write the tweet from the same view.
Hootsuite also has a link shrinker. It comes in handy when you want to share something and explain where the link goes when you only have 140 characters.
Once you schedule a tweet you can always edit it if you need to. I like to go through all my scheduled tweets and check for typos. Click on the paper airplane icon on the left hand side to check out your scheduled tweets.
If you have more than one Twitter account, you’re in luck. You can add several accounts and choose which one (or ones) to post from. This is great if you have more than one blog or a blog and a personal Twitter account.
Now that I’ve been using Hootsuite for the last few years, there’s no way I could ever go back to using the Twitter. I feel much more organized and productive using Hootsuite.
Do you use Hootsuite? What’s your favourite feature?
