Over the last couple months I’ve discovered some new to me beers that have become some of my favourites. I thought I’d share all of my favourites – both old and new.
When I was in Europe during the summer of 2006 I visited the Heineken Experience. It was lots of fun and I’m so glad I went. I had some friends who were going to be in Amsterdam, so I told them it was a must see. When they came back they raved about how much fun it was.
Probably the best part of going was with your admission you got 3 tokens for beer throughout the tour. 1/3, 2/3 of the way through, and then again at the end they had mini pubs set up to redeem your tokens. I’d only had Heineken a few times before, but now it’s one of my favourites. Whenever I drink one it reminds me of my trip to Europe.
The first time I’d had a Corona I was housesitting for some friends who told me I was welcome to help myself to their alcohol while I was there. There were a few Corona’s in the fridge, so I thought I’d try one. Little did I know that they’d become one of my go to beers.
My brother introduced me to Grasshopper. We were at a pub watching a Flames game and he offered me a taste of what he was drinking. Grasshopper is a locally made craft beer.
I discovered Rickard’s Shandy at Beer Fest a couple months ago. It was the only beer I sampled twice while I was there – it was that good. It’s one of those beers that is most delicious on a hot summer day.
While it’s technically not a beer, I’ve really been enjoying Somersby apple ciders. I also discovered them at Beer Fest. I think I used my last tokens on them. It’s been hit or miss trying to find them in liquor stores, but they’re worth the drive to a couple different stores to find them. In addition to the apple, they also have blackberry, citrus, and pear flavours. So far I’ve tried the blackberry and citrus ones and they’re just as good as the original apple.
While out at lunch awhile ago I tried Stiegl Radler. I’d never tried it before and it was on special, so I figured why not? Once again, this is a great summer time drink. It’s fresh and tart and goes down really well.
What’s your favourite beer? What’s the last one you discovered?
Heineken reminds me of Amsterdam too :) Funny how beers do that? I LOVE Ricklands Shandy and have only just been introduced to it- it’s perfect on a hot day!
Isn’t it funny how attached memories get to certain things? My trip to Amsterdam was 8 years ago!
