I thought I’d share some affordable yoga classes in Calgary. If you’re anything like me you love to go to classes, but you can’t afford to go as much as you’d like. Having some cheaper options let me get more bang for my buck. If you know about any other classes let me know and I’ll add them to this post.
At least until the end of July, the East Village is hosting free lunch time yoga on Tuesdays. Head down to the East Village Experience Centre at noon for an hour long class outside overlooking the Bow River. While I haven’t had a chance to go yet, it sounds like it would be fun to practice by the river. They also host other classes as well over the lunch hour (Crossfit, Zumba, and spin). Check out the details here.
Although they’re not running during the summer, The Bodhi Tree usually has community classes Fridays at 5:30. It’s a donation based class, so you pay what you can to be taught by new teachers. The Bodhi Tree is located in Sunnyside, so it’s a pretty central location and close to transit. Click here for more about the studio.
Saturdays at 2:30 The Yoga Shala has a community class. The type of yoga depends on the teacher, but for the most part it’s ashtanga. It’s a donation based class with a minimum of $5. If you attend regularly it’s a great way to get to know the different teachers. Click here for the schedule at the Yoga Shala.
Sunday there’s an outdoor yoga class at Stanley Park at 1pm. While I’ve only been able to attend once, I thought it was a great class. The teacher was great at offering modifications so I could see all levels of yogis enjoying themselves. It was a very welcoming class and wasn’t intimidating at all. On a final note, it’s always cheaper to buy classes in groups instead of at a single drop in rate. Getting 5 or 10 classes at a time will save you money in the long run.
