Yesterday on Twitter I found out that there was going to be a gathering of food trucks downtown today for a Food Truck Frenzy. Since I was going to be downtown for school, I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to take advantage of some delicious food and some wonderful weather.
Once I was finished at school I walked over. They’d been open for about an hour and a half already, and by the time I got there, lots of people from offices were there looking for lunch. There were people everywhere!
I first walked through, checking out what food trucks were there and what was on their menus. I ended up deciding to get a quesadilla and churros from Los Compadres. I hadn’t had churros in years. I think the last time was in 2004 when I was in California. Plus it had a shorter line than the other two food trucks that I was considering, so that made the decision easier.
I got three mini quesadillas. I dug right in, and my first few bites I dipped in the salsa. Unfortunately I’m not a big fan of really spicy food, and it took awhile for the spice to come through. Needless to say I didn’t eat anymore salsa after that. The quesadillas were pretty good and I didn’t really think they needed the salsa.
The churros were probably my favourite part of the meal. I mean, who doesn’t love churros? They were perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with just the right combination of sugar and cinnamon. I would definitely go back to Los Compadres again. Next time I think I’d try one of their tacos.
They had some tables set up for the Food Truck Frenzy as well as lots of benches since the food trucks were set up along the river. I managed to find a bench looking over the river. I thought it was a pretty nice spot to eat.
Does your city have food trucks? What’s the best thing you’ve gotten from a food truck?
