Friday night I was fortunate enough to go to a talk at my yoga studio by Michael Stone. If you don’t know who he is, there’s a bio here you can check out.
I was debating whether or not I even wanted to go. While I really enjoy yoga, I don’t really know much about the theory behind it. I was worried I wouldn’t get or understand what he was talking about. To be honest, I was also concerned I’d think he’d be a little too “out there” for me. I emailed a co-worker who is also a yoga teacher and asked her if she thought I’d enjoy it. She really encouraged me to go, so I took the plunge and called the yoga studio to register.
As soon as I sat down and Michael started talking on Friday night I knew I had made the right decision in signing up for it. While I didn’t understand everything he was said (mostly about meditation), I got most of it and came away with some great insights. He’s a great speaker – so smart and funny at the same time. He gave lots of examples from his own life. I really enjoyed his talk.
He was spending the entire weekend there giving a workshop, but unfortunately I could only afford the Friday night portion. The next time he comes to Calgary I’ll definitely try to attend the entire three days.
What “famous” yogi would you want to practice with?
Kino MacGregor is coming to the yoga studio next summer, which I’m really excited about.
