Last week I started soccer again. I can’t express how happy I am to be back out there on the field chasing after the ball. I’ve been waiting since August to play again, so it’s definitely been a long time coming.
My first game last week was so much fun, even though I was exhausted. It was one of those “I’m having too much fun to realize how tired I am until I stop moving” kind of nights. I barely had the energy to take a shower before I got into bed that night.
The day after I was sore – really really sore. On our next game on Thursday I was glad to hear that I wasn’t the only one whose muscles weren’t used to playing again. Quite a few other people on my team said they were sore too.
My plantar fasciitis is definitely back. I’ve been rolling and stretching my feet lots and lots, so I’m hoping that’ll help. Over the weekend I walked to the soccer fields to see how long it would take me to get there. I’m going to try walking to and from soccer a couple times to see if that helps with it. I’m hoping it will and my feet won’t hurt so much. If it doesn’t get any better I guess I’m heading back to physio.
This morning there was snow on the ground, so it wasn’t looking good that we were going to play tonight. Then this afternoon I got an email saying that the game was cancelled. Luckily the weather looks good for Thursday night though, so I’ll get to play then.
Do you have an “off season” for any of the sports you play? Are you as happy as I am to get back to playing?
