It started on Friday night with a quiet dinner at home with the family. We ended up having barbequed steaks on with roasted veggies and some delicious wine. I’m not a big red meat eater (I only have steak once or maybe twice a year), so I only ended up eating half a piece. The wine was amazing though!
Lunch on Saturday ended up being a Greek salad with half a pita. I’ve taken Greek salads to work for lunch a few times in the last couple weeks. I don’t know what it is, but I just can’t get enough of the combination of spinach, bell peppers, and feta cheese.
Friday afternoon I went to the grocery store to get the ingredients to make some chocolate chip cookies. The cookies got made Saturday. The recipe I use is for the chewy, barely cooked enough kind. They’re so so good. In our house they disappear pretty quick. Here’s a post about these cookies, and here’s the recipe from Martha Stewart.
I was supposed to go for a walk with a couple friends Saturday afternoon, but it ended up not happening. One friend forgot she had a charity walk, and the other friend texted me saying one of her little ones was sick. Hopefully we’ll be able to re-schedule for sometime this week.
Saturday night I ended up getting some beer. I discovered Grasshopper earlier this year while I was at a pub with my brother watching a Flames game. I tried a sip of a Grasshopper that he had ordered and I really liked it. I’ve ordered a few times since at restaurants, but this was my first time buying some to bring home.
Sunday afternoon I ended up watching The Help. I saw it in theatres with a friend and really liked it. I remember there being a couple funny parts, plus I think it has a great message, so I thought I’d watch it again. If you haven’t seen it yet, I would definitely recommend it!
After the movie I ended up going for a walk by the river. It was the perfect temperature for a walk – with a hoodie and jeans I wasn’t too hot or too cold.
The second half of the walk was in some tall fir trees with lots of steps going both up and down. I’m so lucky to have so many beautiful parks within a five or ten minute drive of where I live.
After the walk I figured a Starbucks trip was in order. I got my usual warm weather drink – a passion tea lemonade.
I’ve been reading this book over the last few days. The Other Queen is the last book in the Tudors series by Philippa Gregory. I love her writing, so I’m kind of sad that this is the last book about the Tudor family. Luckily she’s written quite a few other books though, so I still have more to read by her. I spent part of the summer of 2006 in Europe, so it’s pretty cool to read about places that I’ve been to.
To all of you in the US who have a long weekend today, I hope you’re enjoying it. Here in Canada we had a long weekend last weekend. I have a feeling this week is going to feel extra long cause I’m back to a five day work week.
